Well this is the day my war started.
« on: June 25, 2024, 09:55:29 AM »
Each generation seems to have a war and today was the start of my war June 25th 1950 when North Korea crossed the 38th and headed south to take over all of Korea. My part came when I arrived in Korea last week of Jan. 1952 Just turned 18 to serve with the fourth fighter wing located at Kimpo Korea 25 miles south of the 38 th. as a heavy equipment mechanic. Really does not seem that long ago.

Those events sure seem long ago to me.

I was 7 years old in '52 and the day I heard that Kennedy had been killed I was sitting in a friend's car listening to the radio as a freshman in college. There were four of us that became good friends in college and spent a lot of time together when not in class.

I guess if one speaks of a generation's war Vietnam was mine. I didn't serve, when I went for what I guess is called a pre-enlistment physical I was flunked and sent back home rather than being shipped on off to war.

I did wind up at the Anniston Army Depot working on the optical sight for the TOW missile so feel that in making sure each sight was the very best I could make it helped at least some in the war effort. Those TOW missiles were sure a big part of the war.

I was behind the counter of Longs Bait and Sporting goods working as a sales clerk when that happened Friday if I remember correctly.

I guess you're lucky  (?)
My father was in about the same time.
He was probably still in basic at that time.
As far as I know from what little my mother
told me over the years, he was at Ft Benning,
then to some other place that he didn't
specify ( I've always thought Nevada)
then to Hawaii around 1952.
I do know that he was at Marshall Islands
Bikini/ Enewetak for the Ivy tests.
My mother told me some about that, and
I have his citation (?) for his service from
General so-and-so for his service.
He started getting sickly sometime
in the late 60's, and was pretty bad by
the 70's. I'm not sure why it took so long
to diagnose, but by the time they did,
they had to practically gut him, and
not long after they figured out that he
had cancer all over his body and everywhere.
My mother had talked to me some about
how they were trying to get a laetrile
treatment, but the doctor was shut down
in midstream and some of the other doctors
were taken away by (?) gubmint people.
From the way she described it,  the
Unibomber was arrested with more courtesy
and pleasantries than the medical people
were. I don't know myself. I do know that
the people that were advocating Ivermectin
this last go round were shut down way
slower than the laetrile people.
I haven't heard anybody even mention
that in over 50 years
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Essentially nothing good comes out of those "events" but we never realize it till later.

I had returned from Germany to be part of the invasion of Cuba. Russia pulled it's missiles out, and that war was averted. Later while serving at Ft Benning in the 511th Air Assault test group, Kennedy was killed (I think by the deep state). He was imo, the last good Democrat President. The scoundrel who took his place  LBJ was one of the very worse.
