Thunderhawk Help
« on: December 30, 2009, 03:57:58 PM »
I found a never shot TC Thunderhawk 21" 50 cal carbine.  I took it to the range today.  The first two shots at 50 yards were 7" off the target to the right.  I adjusted the rear sight in both directions and could never get the next five shots on the paper.  I was shooting 80 grains 777 and 300 grain Shockwave sabots.  I swabbed the barrel between shots.  The rear sight looks like it is too far to the right (in the dovetail.  The base screws into the barrel and the sight sits in a dovetail in the base) and that may have thrown eveything off.

Does anyone know of a better rear sight, peep sight, for this rifle.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Your rear sight will have to be moved to the left to make the bullet impact to the left. If you were 7" to the right when you started, you may not have enough left adjustment in the rear sight, but you should at least be able to get the POI to the left of where they were striking.

the thunderhawk barrel is so-called free floated. the one i had couldn't hit a bull in the butt until i shimmed the forend with a few layers of masking tape until it had a slight pressure on it which stabilized it. not sayin' this is your problem, just something you might check. after the fix the gun was extremely accurate using maxi-balls and about 80gr powder. good luck and good shootin' neighbor, bubba.

Thanks everyone.  Has anyone ever used a peep sight on their Thunderhawk?  If so, what model?
