Yippee!
A buddy came through for me, and located a 54 inch fresh sturgeon skin, so I could back a bow with it. Question: do you prepare it like snake skin, scrape and dry it, or should I freeze it? Any help is appreciated.

Great Lakes sturgeon skin was a bust. The skin came off with a gristle that was inseperable from the skin, like ear cartilage. Kinda dried to the consistency of fish jerky. I'm gonna try a big salmon, or a rainbow trout...Ferret from theTradgang has had good luck with grass carp skins, with the scales off.

I was talking to a man about snake skins last night he said he uses denatured alcohol to remove the fatty tissue from the skins after skinning them. You might want to try that.

The material under the skin was a gristle, like milk bottle plastic. It was pretty well inseparable from the skin.
