met another goal
« on: December 20, 2024, 01:11:26 AM »
about a year ago i just got sick of being overweight and loosing muscle. after all the surgerys and metal parts in me i about gave up. i was up to 285lbs. first goal was 250. second goal that i just made is 220. now its on to 200. that was my weight when i retired. i thank zep bound and ALOT of work. ive always been a big guy but at 68 after LOTS of work my upper body has never been bigger. crap guys my wife even commented that im getting my 6 pack back. more like a 12 pack now but 20 more lbs and ill look as good as i did in my 30s and i just cant express how much better i feel not hauling that extra 60lbs along. im NEVER going back to being FAT. now if i could just find where i left my hair :o

Good work! I know it must feel incredible. A couple of years ago I lost just 20 pounds and couldn’t believe the difference. Now, if I pick up a 20 pound dumbbell, it’s really hard to imagine that I was carrying that around everywhere I went. What you’ve done is remarkable.

the zep bound helped but it still takes eating less when your brain says no. i now do alot of protein and little to no sweets. i also work out at least an hour every day. my upper body strength is back to my 30 year old level but the lower body is full of steel and im afraid to do much. so its mostly stretches and the wifes pelton bike

Its so much harder to keep a healthy weight as we age. As we age we lose muscle, which burns calories, even at rest. One of the best things we can do as older people is do some resistance training to help maintain muscle. Its said that after 30 years of age we lose 3 to 8 percent of our muscle mass per decade, and this lose increases with age. Keeping muscle through resistance training will help with everyday activities like climbing stairs, walking, balance, lifting things etc..  It also can help balance blood sugar levels, boost mood, increase metabolism, improves heart health, prevents injuries, and also strengthens bones, ligaments, and tendons. The reason older people are more prone to falls, is because of muscle loss that supports their frame, and helps to aid balance.  Back injuries are another thing that older people get.  The best way to help prevent back injuries is to keep your core strong, mainly your abdominal muscles which support your spine.
As we age we are just not as active, which leads to this lose of muscle. We also just don't feel like doing the things we did when younger. Its even harder for older people to maintain a weight resistance program, but if you force yourself to do it. The benefits from it are many.

ypu in my 30s and 40s i thought the gym was fun. kind of a hobby. now its just brutal work i have to force myself to do. but i have to admit seeing those 30's muscles coming back is real satisfying. i know i quit it for 10 years and about fell apart and im just not going back in that rabbit hole. theyve been bugging me to come back and help coach boxing again. maybe if the improvement continues and im not embarrassed because of my belly by summer i might give it a shot. it helps the kids and i get a free workout 3 times a week. save me 75 bucks a month on the gym.

I exercise regularly, simple pushups, squats…mostly body weight stuff. Got nothin to prove, just enough to maintain some fitness. I pretty much cut out sugar, occasional cookie with my coffee (black). May actually be in the best overall shape of my life at 65.

Yep sugar can cause lots of issues. Its good to limit it. People try to lose weight but continue to eat and drink sugar laden foods. A big one is so called healthy fruit juices, like orange juice. They are all loaded with sugar. Breakfast cereals, energy drinks, soda, sweet tea, condiments, and salad dressings. Also processed foods bread, instant oatmeal., protein bars, peanut butter, all have added sugar. I love a piece of chocolate, or a cookie, but not a whole chocolate bar or half a box of cookies.

I tell the grandkids, it’s kinda like blowing up a balloon, you can’t just keep filling it up. I eat what I want, but I know I have to work off the excess to maintain my weight. I use to eat more than I needed just because it tasted good…no more. When I know I’ve had enough, I stop.

thats the hardest battle to win. eating till your stomach has had enough instead of your brain
