What is going on with the potty mouth on radio and TV.
« on: January 06, 2025, 05:49:40 PM »
Is it just me, or has the broadcast lingo standards gone totally south?  Well I don't mean to say that the south really has anything to do with it.  It seems to me that almost anything goes and the bleep button has been switched off.  Even the news seems to be immune from the button.  Yesterday a lady news caster on a Portland, Oregon TV station said that a new radio station was starting up with the call letters KUNT.

That seems to be the current jargon of the left..accepted in their circles, so it is spreading to those who do not care how dirty they are perceived..

As I mentioned sonme time ago, my grandaughter is employed as a beauty consultant with a cosmetics chain.  I had occasion about a week ago,
to pick her up after work.

When she got in my car, she seemed upset, so I inquired as to what was troubling her.  She said some of her co-workers have very dirty mouths,

even using the "F" word at times.

So, let's frame this..the only consultants this firm hires are normally vetry attractive young women.. So I explained to my grandaughter saying,

"For most men, no matter how pretty a woman is..as soon as that kind of verbage starts spilling from her mouth...she becomes ugly !"

I presume these young women think they are being up to date and "cool"...not realizing that they are then considered "trashy"...

Seems to ne the new standard. Even Meghan Kelly on the ‘net is getting pretty foulmouthed, and they don’t use a bleep button.

Cuss words, depending on which ones are now still banned, spilled ouut of the West Coast and has been a cancer for a long, long time on TV.

Modern, at least recent filmed Westerns, seem to think Fu-- was a common word in the West whih is Bull crap . (i grew up with a father from whom God Dammit, crap, son of a bitch were very frequent)
Fox news talking shows have cuss words frequently,  bleepd out, although the person doing it , his/her background makes it coming from that person, not surprising.

It is the supposed comics that are most vulgar, but the one blonde who worked for Trump when he was in office, is known for her foul language.

I personally am trying to remove fu-- from my own use, even though i rarely use it, but then it merely replace crap, which I grew up with.
It annoys me but the problem is, if a word/s are used often enough, the vast majority of the population accept it.kl

Actually, dictionaries are revised according to the frequency of word usage.  The editors and lexicographers rely upon newspapers, books, films and
  general usage.

Yes; filthy talk can emerge from almost any source, but the woke college age left, seem to relish their abuse of decency, which must be why they
  use it so frequently.

Yes; I spent years in the military and working construction.. so I have been as guilty as any bandying about the 4 letter words.  ..Buty once I
became saved, all that had to go..  We don't hurt anyone's feeling by refraining from cussing..but we do hurt some by garbage mouth.

When I matured..and decided to drop the filth, I used substitute words for some time.. F..became "fudge'.. sh..became "sugar" etc.

At the start, I may get the F.. out..then catch myself and finish the "fudge"..  Same goes with SH..morphed into "sugar' etc.

I will use Bollocks, and rarely bloody, which once were forbidden in the U.K.  ;D

Curiously Bob..the term bollocks..often heard among our English allies.  Of course there is the orighinal meaning of this slang word.. (testes)

The dictionary also offers this variation.. " An offensive term for ideas, statements, or beliefs that are silly or not true".

I have heard my Dad use the term "bollocksed"  to describe something that is all messed up !

For instance; "Elmer started to fix the harness for his horse, but he got the britchen rivited to the tugs and the belly band had no
buckle !  He also had the hames attached backwards. He simply had the whole thing all bollocksed up"!

I never heard anyone else use the term, but recently I began to wonder......  Our first family progenitor arrived here from Scotland in about 1652,
and he likely used that term. So I often wonder...could this term have been passed down through so many generations?

For some strange reason, I have been very pleased with myself that I am very selective about my language when I'm around other people--especially kids and women and I've even done pretty well around most males.  The one person I'm trying to do better with is me when I'm alone.  Thankfully I only talk to myself when I'm alone when I do something stupid, or something goes wrong.  I'm really going to work on it, but it's reactionary and there is no pause to think about it.  Does it count if you only think the bad lingo, but you don't enunciate it?

Actually, my opinion only here, but to me it matters not whether you merely think it and don't say it or say it or use some other word in lieu of the word you intended. But if it works for anyone else to think it does matter then who am I to say you are wrong.

Are you talking about Kaily McEnany (spelling?), because if you are, I've never heard her swear.

I don't think he was speaking of Kaylee, and I have never heard her utter such stuff, Although somebody mentioned Megyn Kelly...and
she seems to lapse into such, way too often..

Just FYI..the "F" word was a rather mundane word at one time, in medieval, old English, it simply meant "to plant" .

I guess we can all see the correlation... :D ;D

My error Dana Perrino was secretary for Pres. Bush.
On one of the shows she is on, a remark was made that in private she can sound like an old school longshoreman.
She just grinned at the remark.

I have heard her get bleeped on the air at times.

I don't doubt but what there are several demure type ladies who can blister the air, but am pleased that they at least hold their tongue in public..thus not telling other young folks that such verbal abuse is acceptable.

That surprises me.  I've never heard her get bleeped, and she always seems very classy.
