A New Project Everyone Can Get Involved In!!!
« on: January 02, 2003, 03:40:40 PM »
:D   A lot of the folks here, I've known for quite a while from a different site.  A couple I have the privilage of knowing personally. Others I've met here on these forums.  I have enjoyed your company and your insights.  On rare occasions, someone lets something personal slip into the conversation and I immediatly feel I have a little more insight into what that person is saying, cause I feel I know him a little better.

The project being:

Over the week end open a file in your computers notepad.  And Let the rest of us know a little about you.  It doesen't have to be Name Rank & SN
Mailing address.  Just what ever you may be comfortable with in an public forum.  Who you are, where you are, and how you got there, and why are you staying.  That way you can add to, take away from, or just fix it the way you want it.  Then next week cut and paste into a new topic.

There is a forum in GBO for just that purpose. It's at the bottom of the index page.  Just to make it easy for you:
http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=82

I hope to know you better next week!!

Howdy Gang,

What's to say about me? I'm a 50+ Law Dawg who got started in the "business" a bit later in life than most officers, Been doing it since 82.  Before getting into Law Enforcement I did about anything I could think of to put bread on the table, been a foundryman, lumber jack, soldier, farm and ranch hand, mechanic, gas station attendant, fence builder, painter, roofer, ditch digger, and the dumb end of an idiot stick!

I hunt whitetail deer here in the Midwest and really enjoy doing it with muzzleloaders and handguns. (I don't hunt small game anymore, jist don' have the time) I also like turkey huntin with my muzzleloading scattergun.

Been shootin front stuffers since I wuz a younker and they will always be my first love, when it comes to firearms. I also love to build them from scratch!!! I've been into buckskinning since back in the early 70s, but it's kind of died out in my neck of the woods. But I still compete in matches whenever I have the chance.

A couple of years ago I discovered Cowboy Action Shooting and have been heavily involved in that since I found it! And, of course, I shoot Darksider! 8)  Nuthin but black powder goes through my irons! 8)

I'm a member of  NRA, JPFO, SASS, B.O.L.D. (Benevolant Order of Law Dawgs), SCORRS (Society of Remington Revolver Shooters), and The Zen Shootists http://www.zenshootists.com/ . I also sit on the boards of two area gun clubs. And I love to write! I've had articals in The Cowboy Chronical and a couple of major midwest newspapers. (I'm VERY active politically in our fight for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms!)

The name "Cuts Crooked"? Nope! Yer not gonna learn how I got that!

:D   Howdy Cuts!!!

I'm 51, born and raised in south central Kentucky, I grew up on the farm that's been in the family since well before the Civil War.  In '73 I enlisted in the US Army, I flew helicoptors for 20 years.  I thought that motorcycle mechanicing would be an enjoyable parttime job for a retired aviator, so my wife and I both graduated from MMI in Phoenix.  Instead of part time mechanicing, we moved back to the old home place and started farming.  All four kids were young enough when we moved back that they now consider themselves as Kentuckians.
I can't remember not having a gun.  Hubley, then I graduated to the Matel Shoot'n Shell, pistol, lever rifle and derringer. (If only I still that that 3 some now!   :) ) I had one of the Daisy six shooter BB guns, another I wish I still had, but since I'm not a collector, every gun I've ever had has been one I use, that's why I buy them.  I've packed some fair sized pieces at times: Pair of GE electric short guns, 20mm Gatling fot longer range, a 2.75 sxs with rocket powered pellets and a wire guided single shot.
I love shooting black powder!  Once back in 84 I even shot in a bowling pin shoot with a pair of Walker replicas, I didn't win!  :-D   but I did have a good time trying.  My children are all shooters, the youngest keeps saying that he's better than the old man now (probably is), but is still afraid to put his money where his mouth is.  :)
I'm starting on my third year of CAS,  sometimes the kids go, most of the time not, but I have a great time getting to shoot with the other folks kids now.  It does my old heart good to see the quality of upbringing these kids in shooting sports seem to have compared to many others.
Just over a year ago, I got my first 45-70,  best entertainment investment I've ever made!  I'm working toward Black Powder and 3/4 mile, I don't expect to reach that goal, but I'm having one hell of a good time working for it.

:D Well,I guess ya talked me into it BF45.  Im 52,and just retired from 32 years as a LEO.  I was a deputy sheriff for 27 of those years, and just plain got tired of dealing with those that are genetically predisposed to making poor life decisions, over and over and over again.  I grew up with firearms, and traditional archery.  I am a firm believer in CCW for the non LEO people.  Do not believe in killing something ..just because ya want to.  I will transplant any animal that is a problem.   Most of the time the problem is the humans, not the animals.  I also do wildlife rehab work.  Spring time I may have over 40 baby critters on the bottle  I have hunted and fished since I was old enough to walk, and spend a lotta time in the woods. If I dont eat it,i dont kill it.   Im currantly looking for a farm with some acreage in the U.P. of Michigan so I can enjoy my hobbies.  My latest infection is BPCR and its got me into a raging fever over it.  Been shooting BLACK POWDER since I was about 14 yrs old.   Highly interested in most of the sciences,Paleontology,Zoology,Psychology and Human Evalution to name just a few.   I have so many interest, and hobbies that it would be hard to name em all on here, and I dont wanna bore you guys.  I do enjoy making leather holsers and belts and at present it is keeping me kinda busy.  I will try to help anyone that asks me,and I have no problem giving my opinion on any subject .  Kinda interested in this forum at present because of its history and the firearms that were used.   Stay safe gentleman     King
