Thinking about swapping my 7-30 for either a 30-30 14" or a 357 max 14".Which would you choose I'm leaning toward the max right now I have a 30-30 in 10" tube but a 30-30 14"rechambered to 30-30 AI would be sweet.

If its an either/or situation, I would pick the 7-30.  Now, I don't know what your intended use is for this barrel, but in general (especially if you reload) I see the 7-30 as more versatile.  I like the Max in a 10" barrel and I have a 30-30AI in 14" and both are deer shootin' momma's, but so is the 7-30.  The good news is you can't go wrong with either.  There is my $0.02 worth, who's next?  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  :)

I have a 14" 7-30 and 10" max.  I like both but the Max in a 10" tube is handy, though it's limited on bullet selection.  I shoot only the 180Gr.  It is more accurate than my 7-30 will ever be.  Now I'm considering a 21" 30-30 carbine to use on moving deer that may jump up as I am walking.  I don't like shooting at moving animals with my handgun barrel.

If you want more distance, go with the 7-30.  If you're at the 125Yds or less, the Max is great.

What do you think of the 30-30 carbine idea?

I have two 7-30 barrels is why I might trade.I have a 30-30 10" tube that shoots plenty good for deer.I have a 35 rem 14",357 herrett 10",357-44 BD 10",357 mag 10".Thought the max in 14" would be a good addition.All I shoot are targets or game no sillywets or anything.I agree about the 7-30 it is a good round.

The 7-30 makes a fine carbine as well.  Shoots a little flatter and hits a little harder than the 30-30.  TC no longer markets the carbine barrel in 7-30, but there are some around or Fox Ridge still makes them. Just a thought.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  :grin:

By looking at your list of 35 cal barrels it looks to me like you NEED to have a .357 max!  :) I've got a 14" max barrel and it is my favorite! Mike

Kyode do you have a 30-30 AI if so where did you get the dies and how much.Who did the rechamber ?

mines not a rechamber. it's a factory special run that midway usa sold a while back. i got it from ed's contenders, after the fact. missed one heck of a buy from midway, but ed was fair enough.
i got my dies from "lock stock and barrel" www.lockstock.com. they are redding brand for about $60.
soon after buying them i found that lee is now producing them. they are about $25 from midwayusa. http://www.midwayusa.com/
 so now, there is a reasonable option for really good name brand dies, or probably nearly as good for a great deal on lee brand. i would have bought the lee for $25, but i'm not gettin rid of the reddings. :wink:

Same here,  got the barrel from Midway along with a .223AI ( haven't shot it yet ) and Redding dies. Shoots great!!  Walt   :)
