bushmaster 16 vs 20 inch
« on: March 27, 2004, 03:20:36 AM »
I have decided on a bushmaster,But cant decide 16 or 20 inch bull. This will be used as truck, coyote, plinking, all around fun gun.How much velocity would be lost out of 16''? I am really leaning towards 16'',but how much distance will i be giving up? The 16 should be as accurate as the 20 shouldnt it? If it wasnt for carrying in the trk the 20 would probably be my choice because of bullet speed. In reality i will eventually get both uppers along with a 22. Which one would you start with and why. My buddy has a 24 that is way to long for my liking, but will the 16 give me what i want? The 20 would be a good compromise, but do i need to compromise? Thanks in advance :D

Les,

I have a 20" heavy barrel upper on my Bushmaster and it rides just fine in my Wrangler.  Don't see where it will make any difference unless you are planning to shoot from inside your truck.  By the way that heavy barrel sure hold steady compared to the military M-16's I have used.

I haven't shot any groups lately, playing around with a new Encore, and have the scope off and just using the iron sights.  But as I remember when I had the scope on it and was shooting off a rest at paper it was doing a minute and just under.  I was using 55 grain fmj, WW small rifle and AA2200 data powder.  My upper is American Spirit Arms A2 and not Bushmaster as the lower is.

I'd get the 16 and shoot the heck out of it.  I doubt the trajectory will be affected as much as your own aiming errors will affect it, most rifles are a lot more accurate than the nut that holds the stock (You!)
I doubt anything hit with a bullet from either could tell the difference.

If you can shoot home invaders, why can't you shoot Homeland Invaders?

If you are happy with yours, Big Edd and several more love their olys. I think i will pick up the oly with 16''. Everyone else seems to like theirs and i can get it new for 575 instead of 800 for the same bushy. Are oly parts interchangable so i can get after market 2 stage triggers and trick it out? I really want to get a stock gun ( to save money ) and trick it out. Thanks :D Also i will eventually get a 24'' barrel for varmits but will start with 16'' for all around. From what i understand the big difference between the two guns is re-sale which isnt a problem if its accurate
