scope mount for custom barrel
« on: June 23, 2004, 02:27:49 AM »
Has anyone here installed Mark 4 tactical mounts from leupold on any of there custom barrels? Just wondering. I think they are really nice looking. I'am getting ready to order my first custom barrel from either bullberry or vv. I had a trigger job done from vv. I was very well pleased with the work. Just can't make a decision on which one. What's the reason why Fred's scope mount holes are four inches ahead of the breech?

I don't have any experience with the Mark 4 mount, but I do have a Bullberry Contender carbine barrel.

I have read somewhere that Fred moved the mount holes foreward so that they were drilled over the bore instead of the chamber where the metal is thicker.

The foreward mounted scope with me put the scope in a lot better position. I have a factory carbine barrel and I have never been able to find a comfortable position, seems the scope is too far back. In my opinion moving the holes foreward is an improvement.

As far as Bullberry vs Virgin Valley, I have bought both an if I buy another custom barrel it would be a Bullberry.

Another neat thing you will discover about Fred's new location is that you can turn the Weaver base around and the cutout fit neatly over the top of the frame. Looks a lot better turned around.
