Bear sign?
« on: October 09, 2006, 08:45:59 AM »
I know what real bear sign is, but what type of food did the old cowboys call bear sign?  I just read a L'Amour novel and the cook was whipping up bear sign.  Sounded like some sort of donuts.  I figured this was the place to find out what it is.

I thought sure I would find the answer on this forum.  This is the first time I have asked a question on Graybeard that i didn't learn the answer.  Oh well, 99% is still darn good results. ;D

I just read another L'Amour book and he explains that they are doughnuts.  His books are a fun read and the guy is one of the few fiction authors who gets his gun info right.

Again, I'm late chiming in. Grampa always called 'em bear sign, but I don't remember why? Anybody???

The doughnuts at that time were not the cute round holey things we see now but more like a cruller? They looked like droppings I believe but cant say for sure
