How many of you shoot AR15's
« on: January 21, 2004, 07:42:47 AM »
Hi All,

I'm wondering how many of you shoot an AR15?  Since I bought mine about 2 months back, I haven't touched any of my other rifles.  I just love that rifle!

I have a Bushmaster V-Match, 20" barrel, Flattop receiver, free float aluminum hand guard.  Very accurate, sub MOA at 100 yards, with factory ammo.

Any other AR lovers??

Hours of fun!

With a dream in my mind
A smile on my face and no trouble behind
And no cross on my grave
To show my restin' place

Recently acquired a Bushmaster X15 A2 lower with 20 inch bull American Spirt .556 upper.  It shoots well, and one of the things I like about it is the cloth brass catcher that came on the deal.  I hate picking cases out of cactus!  Have it scoped with a Tasco 3x9 illuminated rectiule.

However it has a lot of competition in the stable with a bunch of Contender .223 barrels, both shorter and longer.

Tom,
That sounds so wierd!  Picking brass out of the cactus. LOL

I was shooting my AR yesterday, (it has Warmed up to about 20 degrees)

I was picking brass out of the snow! Freezin' my freekin' fingers!  WoW! I'd like to pick brass out of the cactus right now.  For some reason, this winter is buggin' me.  Never did before.  Last week it was below zero for 3 days, DAY AND NIGHT.  Wooooooo! That aluminum hand guard was ccooooooooolldd!

maine,

I have exactly the same rifle (and several others like it) and as much as it pains an old M14 man to have to say so, them little Ratguns SHOOT!

I run 24 of 3031 under a 50 grain Remington HP, Win primer, seated to 2.20" in that upper and have many, many times beat half-minute of angle with it! Not bad for a chrome bore, huh?

Enjoy that little contraption! :D

I have a DPMS Panther 24" heavy bull, laminated thumbhole stock, 27" harris tilt bipod and a 5.5-22x56 Nightforce illuminated reticle scope.  It is one awsome gun.   AR15s can be very addictive.   this is an older picture before I put the nightforce on it.

I just ordered a panther arms bull sweet sixteen.  I can't wait to get it.  How do you like your panther?

I have a 16 inch barrel bushmaster with a trijicon reflex sight on it, it shoots very well with most ammunition.  It like the chrome bore which is still able to produce 2 inch or better groups at 100 yds from the prone position.  I use the 20 round magazines as these are more condusive to shooting from a bench or prone.  I like the gun but am not sold on the round, hopefully we will be seeing more on the new 6.8 mm round.  If Robinson Arms produced a rifle in 6.8 mm which would hold a 1-2 inch group, this would be just about perfect. Not too heavy, not too light, just about right. JimmyP

I just recently purchased an Armalite NM lower, and a RRA Varminter upper(20" Wilson
Stainless Bull Barrel, with a Wylde Chamber).  The barrel has a .75 MOA guarantee on it,
and after my first trip to the range, I had that beat easily.  I usually take 2 or 3 bolt guns
to the range, for load development, scope zero checks, or just to practice, and I take this
new AR-15.  I quickly get through the bolt gun groups, so I can spend the rest of my
time burning up .223 Rem. ammo.   I have been sucked into the dark side of these
"rat guns", too.  I too once had a strong preference for the M-14, and still caress
them like a long lost friend, but this AR-15 has her hooks in me bad.

Yesterday, I took a M1911A1 to the range to let a friend try one before he ordered
one, and I dragged the AR-15 along.  He had never fired one before.  After he
warmed up to the strange lines of the gun, and started printing sub MOA groups
on the targets, I think I see another one being pulled to the dark side.  And he
thought he just needed an new 1911(grin).

Bought a Bushmaster Varminter last October.  I'm very pleased with it.  It will shoot 1.4" groups (average of three-three shot groups) with Federal XM-193 ball ammo at 200 meters.  That with a Tasco 3-9X scope on it.

I've got three: a Colt SP1, Colt 9mm, and a DPMS lower with a 300 Whisper (300/221) upper.  The 9mm is the most fun while the 300 Whisper is probably the most versatile.  The SP1 is the classic.
