traded for a ruger vaquero .45 colt this week. both of my 45 moulds drop .454 bullets. my only sizing die is a .454. my chamber mouths measure .4525 which makes for more than a snug fit. is this combination safe to shoot ? should i wait to get a smaller sizing die ? i really would like to try this gun out tomorrow. but....

My RV's both use .452 bullets. Know that the old Colts (around WWII) were using the .454 bullets.

You are only talking about .0015" as the difference, which won't be an issue in the Ruger. I shoot my bullets as cast without sizing and have been doing so for years. I use Lee's liquid Alox and the whole process goes much faster. Plus, they shoot fine and without any signs of a pressure problem.

with any of my molds that throw bullets big enough I try the bullet sized to .454 .452 and usually even try them unsized and tumblelubed. Should bother your gun at all. Some of mine even shoot better with them bigger.

My .41 RBH prefers unsized which generally run around .4115 cast from WW. With commercial cat bullets sized at .410 I get less accuracy and excessive leading. Try them as is and see what happens.

Dakota, I size all my 45LC bullets .454 for 4 RVaq. and have had excellent results. It sure won't hurt to give them a try and see what kind of accuracy you get and leading if any. I have not had any leading to speak of with mine. Omaha.
