Are these things worth the fluids I've been losing drooling over them? I'd like to take a ride on a BPCR rifle and the 45-120 looks really appealing.

Anybody have thoughts on the "Quigley" Model?

Dont waste the time,

Pedersoli a good low end gun but the 45-120. Not an original caliber in the sharps. They are a bp only shot so forget smokless loads.

I would suggest a 45-70 for your first endever in BPCR.

Are the 45-70's only relegated to blackpowder/pyrodex loads in the Pedersoli as well? Or could I buy some Remingtons off the shelf?

I can't throw the $2500 for a top end Sharps or other and I'd like something "different" to take to a friend's 1000 yard range. What are my other options?

No the Pedersoli guns are not restricted to BP only. I tend to agree with Kenny, 45-70 is a good place to start in BPCR chamberings. You won't have so much money tied up in high dollar brass, near custom prices fer dies, etc. that way. And you may find that it's not the game for you and that money will come in handy if so. Also, if you find that this is yer passion, you can always have yer gun rechambered later. :-)

I think the Pedersoli is rated for smokless in the 45-70. If your planing on grabing some remingtons then forget the 45-120. Nobody sells ammo for that sucker. Old west scrounger used to for like 4 bucks a shot?

I would go with the 45-70 Perdersoli if thats all your budget can afford. Be forwarned that modern smokless loadings are pretty lacking for 1000 yard stuff. Wrong bullet wts is the problem.

I do KNOW that a Shiloh is rated for Smokless in the 45-70 and its not 2500 and 3 or 4 years. One can get into a basic shiloh for around 1800 and perhaps a bit less and in 10 months or so. They even have some rifles for sale on the rack right now.

For Long range stuff say 1000 yards, the 45-90 or the 45-110 are more prefered rounds and Pedersoli sells their sharps in both of these chamberings.

PS I can tell you from ALOT of 1000 yard experiance that you would be very happy with a 45-90 or a 45-110 but you will have to learn how to load BP loads and cast bullets to get the most out of these two cartridges.

AWF.
I have a .45-120 Pedersoli.I replaced four under lever springs,they just wont hold up.To hard.I dont shoot that thing anymore.With 115+ grains of Goex and a 550 gr bullet It gives you a headache, and knocks off your glasses.I dont shoot it anymore it has a rung chamber.I have a barrel but I dont think I will use it for that reciever.

I have one, it's a nice gun. The 45-120 will definitely rock you when you touch one off. I bought mine for the "wow" factor of those big cartridges. If you plan on competing or hunting, the 45-70 is a better place to start, particularly if you don't already reload. You will want better sights if you buy the Pedersoli, and don't forget, brass for the -120 is spendy. I shoot 110 grains of Cleanshot and a 520 gr. bullet. When I take it to the range, everyone wants to try it out.

Good Morning gentleman.............I also have the .45-120 Pedersoli. Do I like the gun? That answer is yes,but I also shoot a .50-140 so the recoil of the .45-120 bothers me very little. The guys that are telling you to get a .45-70 first are correct in that it teaches you loading techniques and also will help you with your shooting techniques if you want to. I only load BP so I am a little jaded toward that powder. Recoil in the .45-120 is interesting and like one of the guys said,the "WOW" factor is worth it to me. Sure brings a lot of stares at the range when they are shot. Stay safe.......King

What size groups have you experienced with your .45-120's, and at what distance?

I have had my eye on a Pedersoli for some time now. The job situation and political situation at home are almost in alignment........the time is just about right!

Rumriver. Sorry abut the delay,but If you read my last post over on Traditional mxl you will understand. I have shot an honest one (1) inch group for 4 shots,off of the bench with mine. the fifth(5th) went out of the group by about an inch. I do not have any tangent sights set up on mine nor do I have a globe front. I do shoot some target with it,but instead plan on using it for hunting. I have been using the Lyman 520 round nose,and the 405 lyman(flat point) as well. Primer is the Fed 215 in Bell cases. Load that seems to work the best is 1.5 swiss at 115 to 120 grns. I do not shoot the above target as a matter of any regularity but instead hover around the two inch mark quite well. It will get your attention upon touching one off,but it will also blow the "grin" factor way up. I feel that I should put in some additional work into my loads and will as soon as able to and will be happy to give you this information. One additional bit of info. If I can not make a gun shoot properly with a lot of study and work into it,I do not keep it. I feel that the Pedersoli is a keeper at this time. staysafe.............King

I'm assuming your groups were shot at 100 yards, very good!
Have you had a chance to measure groups at longer ranges?

Rum River. Yes,that was at 100yards. I have not really had a chance to shoot at any longer ranges then that with that caliber. It looks like it will be awhile before I can do that with the present confusion. As soon as I can get you some information I will do so,but it will probably be middle of summer. Stay safe...King
