I have a kind of a pet project that I'll take up after the AWB sunsets. My first exposure to firearms was with flintlocks, so I've always had a thing for the big bores and big stocks, but I also like modern repeating and pistol grip development. So I was planning to configure a semi-auto tube fed shotgun like this:
It would have a one piece stock with pistol grip, a ten round extended tube magazine (which I could make as long as the cap allowed it), and as long a barrel as possible, preferably 30" or above but no less than 28". And I'd fashion a bayonet mount for it.
Purpose would be purely for recreational shooting, as it would be impractical for home defense (too big) or for hunting (since the tube would be blocked anyway), though I wouldn't rule out other uses it would be good for.
The first idea that came to mind was the Remington 1100. But they can get pricey. Then so did Berettas, older Brownings, Charles Dalys, and a few cheapos out there like Lanber and Verona.
A thinner receiver would be nice since it would have to fit inside a one piece stock.
So does anyone have any favorites, any better buys than the Rem 1100 or Beretta, or Daly (if its tube can be extended)?
