While in your particular rifle, Varget or ReLoder 15 may, or may not, be more accurate or you might need a slightly more temperature stable powder,  IMR 4064 is never a bad choice for the .308.

The 308 is one of those rounds that is not very finicky your powder choice is a good one according to the Hornady book and also W748. IMR 3031 is not a bad choice either.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

IMR 4064 can really heat up the bore. If you have extended shooting sessions, w748 shoots cooler.

I have loaded 4064 in a number of rounds over the years including the 308 Win.  It worked like clockwork but I have long since gone to other powders.

I have had better luck in Idaho where the Temps can range a 100 deg, with powders like H4895 (Varget I haven't tried but it should work).

One of my favorite 308 powders is IMR 4320.  While it is more Temp sensitive than some newer ones, it has never let me down under a wide temp rage.  I like 4320 as it meters nearly like a ball powder.

I still have some 4064 in the powder safe somewhere though it mostly just sits there and ages.  I should shoot it up.

I use RL-15 in 308.  It works very well in other medium capacity cases such as 303 British and 300 Savage.

IMR4064 performs very well in my .308Win.  It's a Browning Micro-medallion with a short 20", thin barrel with a 1 in 12" barrel.  I shoot mostly 125 and 150gr. bullets for my best accuracy and find IMR4064 and IMR4895 both give good accuracy.  Just one mans opinion.  Best wishes.
