Marlin coming out with a 41 Mag in 2003!

Just saw where Marlin is coming out with a lever action 41 Mag this year.  I love the 41 Mag.  Lets see, do I trade my Winchester Trapper 44 Mag, or just add another gun to the collection?

I'm with you, Bullseye!  To answer your question, don't get rid of anything you like!  The pain of paying for the .41 will be long forgotten the first time you pull that trigger.

As to naysayers of the .41 magnum, Try it...You'll like it!  And if you handload, there's not a bit of cost difference between loading for the 41 and the 44.  Yeah, there are a few more bullets to select from in the 44 and factory ammo IS cheaper, but if we all only shot 30-06 and 44 mag, the world would be a pretty boring place.

I've been waiting for a .41 mag lever gun for awhile.  I'm excited about it, too.

Between this Marlin .41 Magnum levergun and several of the other new goodies due out this year (Winchester '94 in .480 Ruger) I'll need to pick up a side job or work a lot of overtime to afford them all! :-D

Hey Advocate.

Man, you slam me on my love of the 41 Mag and then ask my opinion about my Trapper.  Now don't get upset, I am only joking around.

I really like my Trapper.  I get groups of about 2" at 50 yards using open sights.  It might shoot better groups than this but I shoot it offhand since it is my playgun and I never get serious about seeing how tight a group it will shoot.  It seems to cycle smoothly.  I have heard that sometimes the Winchesters do not cycle the 44's smoothly because they build their 44's using the same receiver as the bigger bottleneck cases where Rossi and Marlin use a seperate receive.  I do not know if this is true or not but mine has always cycled smoothy.  The kick is moderate using full power loads, but by no means painful.

I think you was the one that said you found a new one for $279.  If thats the case, you had better buy it.  I have not seen them for less than $330 in my neck of the woods for over a year.

That is great news about the Marlin in 41 magnum. Is it going to have the microgroove barrel or the ballard type rifling (I hope)? :grin:

I just checked the Marlin website and it appears that the 1894FG in .41 Remington Magnum is being produced with a MICRO-GROOVE barrel?!?!?!?! :eek:   The .44 Magnum apparently has a Ballard rifled barrel.

I'm really glad to see that Marlin is bringing out the .41 mag. again in a lever gun. I love .41 magnum, and own a beautiful S&W 629 stainless 6"... In Indiana, during firearms season for deer, you are allowed to carry more than one gun and since I always hunt with muzzleloaders, I like the .41 magnum for second shots if necessary... just so much easier... anyway, having a "matched set" would be great as far as I'm concerned... plus, perhaps it will revive the .41 a bit. Never did really take off, but it is a great round in it's own right... Marlin must think there is a market for it out there or they wouldn't be doing it...

Better grab one of those Marlins when they come out. Last time they made a batch of the 41s they didn't last long on the market - about 2 months if I remember rightly.

Advocate - the 41 mag works.  And when I started handgunning 44 mags were impossible to find and unaffordable when I did find them.  Also being of slight frame and modest strength, I figured I maight be able to handle the 41 better than a 44. So I bought a 41 S&W mod 58 - later traded for a 57, now have a Ruger Bisley and Redhawk too.  Can't say the 41 works better than anything else but I've come to like having something different from everybody else. And id has done what I've asked of it.  Same reason I like toting my 348 now and then.

What is go great about the .41 Magnum? Just asking.

That's such a hard thing to quantify... I do feel that the .41 magnum fills in between the .357 magnum both in power and bullet weight and size very nicely and leaves off where the .44 magnum takes up. It has something over the .357, but obviously not the .44... here is what I like personally. Although I am a pretty large guy, I have impossibly short fingers. I play acoustic guitar, and have a horrible time with some of the cords... Because of this, my grip is not all that great, and the  .44 magnum with full throttle loads are really difficult for me to control. My S&W 629 with the combat rubber grips with finger groves is just right in the recoil department, much easier for me to control, and I can shoot it much better with more confidence than I can the .44... Hey, what can I say. The .41 does have it's staunch followers, and I'm one of them. I love Brussels sprouts, Hawaiian slack key guitar, and contemporary gospel music... not everyone likes those things either... I just like it,.... just because I do..

I have been wanting a lever action in 41 magnum for a few years. I have been considering rebarreling one of my Rossi's to 41 magnum. But the cost is about $500.00 including having it totally reblued.

I am not a big Marlin fan but I do like the looks of the 1894's with 16.25" barrels. I've been thinking about acquiring one in 44 mag. One in 45 Colt would be really nice. But when I heard that Marlin was coming out with the 41 magnum again I was excited. But that excitement went away when I saw it. It has that ugly pistol grip. I like the looks of the straight grip, whether it be Marlin or Winchester. For that matter even Browning has dropped the BLR Lighting and have gone back to the BLR 81. The Lighting has the pistol grip and the 81 has the straight grip.

I hope they bring back the 1894C/PC and chamber them all in 357 Mag, 41 mag, 44 Mag and 45 Colt. But I guess it is SALES what dictates what they will market.

You can all take turns kicking me because I had  a Marlin in 41. and sold it. Now I'd give my right arm to have it back. At the time I was fairly new to reloading and just couldn't get a load to shoot the way I wanted. That was before some of the heavier (cast) bullets were readilly available. I'll be keeping a look out for one. I hear a lot of people ask what is so good about it and I counter with what is so bad about it. The only reponse I get is that it is not a 44 and bullet selection is poor. I respond by saying "and a 44 is not a 454"  and "if you find one or two bullest that work why do you need any more?. All in all it works for me and that is what counts.
