What Took Me So Long To Discover.....?

FP-10!

I am not one to jump on a bandwagon over some fancy gun lube, but I'm sold on this after only one day of trying it.

This gun oil has got to be the cat's meow of firearms lubricants! I just got a bottle yesterday, and used it on my 1911 today. Wow, talk about slick......it's way more slick than the "Break Free" I've used for years. It's nice to see something great come down the pike that isn't a "snake oil" I also found their website, and from what I can tell so far, the claims are all real. I am going to order a case for my gun shop and push it whenever I can.

The weirdest thing too......AFTER I wiped it all off the externals of my pistol, the metal felt as though it was still covered with lube....weird, but slick!

I've been using it for four years and it is now the only kind I use. It really is "that!" good.  For example:

1) I had been using FP10 on my pardini 45 and then decided I'd try Army red lube. Before I started using the red lube there was no wear on the slide, as evidenced by the black finish still being intact.  Within 200 rounds of using red lube, some of the finish had worn through to bare metal. I switched back to FP10 and the area of wear stopped getting bigger.  The red lube I prepared had Mobil-1 synthetic oil as its base.

2) The stuff works in cold temperatures. Other lubes thicken and affect ejection in cold weather.

3) Every year for years we would bring out Squeaky The Box Fan during the summer, lube it with oil, and run it for a few days. It would always start sqeaking again after a few days and we maybe lubed it again and ran it some more.  A few years ago I lubed it with FP10 instead of household oil and it has not squeaked since. We run it all summer long, nearly full-time.

4) It's great in a 1911 target pistol because it migrates to unlubed areas during firing. You can always add a little more during your shooting session without removing the slide.

I will not use another gun oil.

For grease I use Wilson Combat white grease, and Brownell's Action Lube, both excellent products as well.

I also use Hoppes dry lube, a spray. This is great for some trigger mechanisms that need lubrication. It's a teflon lube.

I forgot to mention that the pardini had had about 5,000 rounds with FP10 before trying the red lube.

Don't use FP10 for a carry gun. It is too thin and will run out.

Chris B.

Go to the link I posted, and you can see that the military has gotten away from Breakfree and is now using FP-10 on the AR-15 types also.

I just ordered 100 samples for our pistol class - which includes a gun cleaning session.  I feel really good about being able to introduce the students to this product each month.

I am also restoring a 1975 Marlin/Glenfield Model 60.  I first used Breakfree on the parts while I was working on them.  Tonight, I rubbed off the Breakfree and used FP-10.  The difference in slickness is quite noticeable.

BamBams, does  that rifle have a deer head relief in the sides of the pistol grip?

That was the model of the first centerfire I ever bought in 1969, sold it to a friend so he could start hunting with me in '80, after our firsst season hunting together, he had it refinished, it looked like a Weatherby barrel in a Browning stock.  Absolutely beautiful!  I've been trying to buy it back for the last 24 years. Great old gun.  I hope you enjoy yours as much as I did mine.

I had a gunsmith recommend it to me for a temperamental Browning B-80 (the one gun more cranky about lube than a 1911) about 6-8 years ago.

FYI, back then it was one of the first synthetic gun lubes available.

Someone else mentioned it would "run out"..I have never seen this to be the case.  I have pulled long guns out that have been sitting a year, and the light coat of oil is still there waiting to protect.  But then again, I always apply light coats of oil and clean after I shoot each gun.

Just went and looked at their site..looks like they might have changed it since I bought my last bottle.  Mine is in a black bottle with a yellow label.  Anyone know if the "new" stuff is better?

well i am a believer now. after reading this post i decided to try it because i have a bunch of 250 gr. lead bullets with a light charge (a little too light) and my gun stove-pipes them.  so i get a me a bottle and clean my gun and apply as directions say.  the gun proceeded to eat them all without a hiccup.  i am sold.
