30-06 Is Here!!
« on: March 20, 2004, 05:33:15 PM »
:music:  :toast:  :music:
I called Wal-Mart yesterday at lunch and they said it was in, it had came in Wednesday. It only took four days to get here  . This is the quickest I have heard of yet. When he called to order it they had five in stock, maybe that had something to do with it. I haven't got to shoot it yet(too many home improvement chores today  :x ) I did get the scope mounted last night though. Man this thing looks good with the black stocks. Will try to shoot tomorrow .

Good lookin peice of metal there man. Let us know how she performs. Post some felt recoil facts about it too. I'm thinking of adding this barrel sometime and wondered about  the "punch". It would be on an Ultra Receiver.
Nice looking Gun-Congrats to ya friend.

lik2hunt...

I was able to sneak off and fire a couple rounds while running a home improvement errand today(can you say addiction :) )
Still haven't sited it in so I just aimed at the fattest pine tree I could find at about 50 yds(this was out in the middle of nowhere for safety reasons)
The recoil is minimal, (I'm 6'2" and 195lbs and my other gun is a NEF 10ga though) if I had to guess Id say less than .410 recoil. It's hard to tell because this thing is LOUD!!  I never even thought about the 22" barrel and noise but I do now :)   Hearing protection from now on!  I can imagine the fireworks show if you shot this gun at night with this short barrel. Looks like it will be next Sunday before I can get it sighted in,  Its dark when I get home from work every day and this is my Saturday to work :x
I'll keep ya'll updated

10 ga,
Sounds good and the rifle looks tough as nails good!!!!  Mine is in the gray and black laminated stock. I like the looks of that synthetic. Hope maybe something will work out and you will get to shoot one day this week. I know how you feel. I have gotten up 2 hours early for work and be out shooting at 6:00am just to get some shooting in because of the "addiction" I know what you mean there.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Huntsalot, is the gray laminated stock still being manufactured?  I saw a used .308 with that stock, but couldn't find it on the manufacturer's website.

Try calling CS and asking about specific laminated stocks. Sometimes they have one or two that are not listed. Good luck.
Shoot straight , shoot often.

Recoil versus noise......I'll take noise any day. I'm bigger than you are ( I ain't givin my height and weight tho) but felt recoil is just something I don't enjoy. I can handle a good punch but would rather not. I shot my sawed off 12 ga. Pardner with the 3" Remington Sluggers and enjoyed it.
So I can handle some recoil, just would rather know that at the range I wouldn't have to. I'm glad to know that this one doesn't kick too bad. I just ordered the .223-22" bull barrel for my Ultra yesterday and I am seriously considering 30-06 for my next addition. Get her sighted in and post some more results.
