What's with Rimfire Central?
« on: May 05, 2004, 12:26:13 PM »
I recently returned to check out Rimfire Central's forums after a long abscence.
Wow!! Are they afraid of  the mention of the word..POLITICAL..

Last time I checked, there was a portion entitled IRAQI FREEDOM..
Just tuned in to them and didn't even find that...
So what gives? Does anybody know?

My theory is that, since it is a site supported by posters..and the Libs have bought their way in, and since most gun/hunting sites are very conservative...by buying their way in , they have leverage...
    So...follow the money trail..

  am I right or wrong?

I don't know about that, but I do know that since their new, improved "look", I can't post replies to any messages on the site. Has anyone else had this problem?

about 2 months ago there were some political threads that got very heated and the mods got scared that it would cover over to other areas of the board.  no they've even removed the iraq forum.  i guess the mods don't realize that politics is as going to give way to some heated topics. but it didn't become a problem.

AT RFC since they replaced their server you have to have a new cookie installed in your PC.Thats what I had to do.Now I can post no problem. As far as there political situation-I'm not the kind of person who reads it anyway on a gun site, but a little info about our politicians background and their voting record on the gun and hunting/outdoor issue would be helpful.

Ken,
How did you get the cookie? By the way, I agree with you on politics on these sites. I get my political news from the paper or some of the less liberal (relatively speaking) TV channels.

I have seen good sites go to the dogs when politics get a foothold.  I avoid the discussion like the plague.  I find  RFC fine like it is.  I get my political information elsewhere.

Politics isn't hard to control; just put up the heading and allow it nowhere else...it doesn't usually flow over into other areas.
On this forum we have " second amendment & political"..no problem..
If one doesn't like politics, they can just skip over that feature..

Politics are important and I am about as close to a one issue voter as you can get (2nd amendment), but sites like rimfirecentral are spesific and political comments should be confined to their own headings.  I do sort of have to laugh when reading the rimfirecentral "hunting" heading and I find someone talking about his moose or elk hunt.  Maby Hornady will come out with a 45 RF Express to balance out the new 17.

I'm a member at RFC.  There was so much trouble with trolling and disputes that the political forum was done away with entirely and the "Iraqi Freedom" forum  moved to the members only section.  There have been many problems going on in the background that the general public doesn't know about.  A select few troublesome posters are causing massive problems over there, and the webmaster isn't happy about it at all.  RFC might suffer the ultimate penalty, shutdown.

Such trouble makers are all too common on all our forums these days. That's why I now limit posting to only members except down in the help and announcements section which is open so folks having problems can let me know there.

There really are more forum sites on the internet now than there are folks to adequately support them. If you need money from the users to support you or you have a very high over head you are likely to go down the tubes sooner or later. Running a site like this takes a lot of time and money and is a thankless task.

You know, there is so much political BS in all the media now that I enjoy escaping it once in a while. If there was a tendency for politics to slop over from where they wanted it into other parts of the site, they maybe did the right thing by shutting it down. I enjoy visiting RFC.
