New TC Encore Breechplug?

Randy,
I saw on the NAHC talk forum that a guy said he was given a new prototype breechplug that uses small rifle/pistol primers instead of the 209.  Have you heard anything about this from TC?  If so wonder how I can get one to try out also?  I will contact TC if you say its valid.

These have been available for some time from Precision Rifle Bullets, first with .22 Hornet brass-- now with .25 ACP brass.

I am aware of the Precision Bullets inserts using the .22 Hornet or .25 ACP.  What I am getting out of his post is that TC has a new breechplug they are trying out that you directly insert the small rifle/pistol primer into the breechplug with no casing.  Why wouldn't that be possible except for the tiny primers being hard to handle without a capper (like the #11caps).

I asked him this on the NAHC forum and sent a PM so I should know for sure if he responds.

Small / large bore button primers need to be pressed in firmly to function, unlike rimmed, anvil style, battery cup primers. That makes no sense with an Encore, at least to me. The primer would be extracted "like how?" Sounds like you are being fed some red herring.

I got a response from the guy today and I was right, but TC isn't behind it.
A gunsmith in MO. has come up with a breechplug that doesn't use the Hornet or ACP brass just the small rifle primer, the same size as a #11 cap.  It still is in the testing stage so he won't go any further than that, but promised to post results comparing the 209 and the new concept plug in the future.

One advantage I can think of right away is the lack of crud ring from triple 7 powder that is reported in the rifles that use #11 caps compared to the 209 primer.  I have personal experience with the 209 crud myself!
