Waders (Need oppinions ASAP)
« on: May 03, 2004, 05:18:05 AM »
My guide tells me we will be in hip waders most of the time, mine don't fit well and I am sure I will get blisters. He recommended ankle fit hip waders from Lacrosse, what do you guys think? I am leaving for Perryville this Saturday so I need to order ASAP.

Thanks,

Rick

I don't know the brand names, but I want to advise you to spend more for a good pair of waders.  Not saying you have to go top of the line.  I hate to go low budget on my feet (or rifle scopes.)  I'd rather save money on some other piece of equipment.  Good luck.  Dan.

Try them on first!

I have the LaCrosse ankle fit and they are great except for one problem. Getting them on and off.  :(  The ankle fit is so tight I need a good board with a notch in it to pull the heal against.  Try taking them on and off.  A little talcom power in the bottom of the boot might help.

If your hunting from a boat you will be jumping off the bow into the water and trying to keep the bow of the rocks.  Kind of hard at times.  I usually use some 18" rubber boots from Cabela's and get by.

Good luck on your trip.   :D I may be out and about PWS on the weekend as I have to take 2 personal days off or loose them.

OK,

I am going with the Cabelas ankle fit, their stuff is usually pretty good. My 45/70 is still jamming shells so I want to bring my 50 cal as a backup, is there a limit to the amount of shells a gun can hold, I could not find anything. I beleive I have a seven round clip. This is an awesome gun for a quick 2nd-3rd shot if needed, it shoots a 334 JHP round which took out my last bear quite quickly(after we chased it seven miles to get the shot).

Back to your waders, Take a pair of the socks you are going to wear with you when you try them on for fit.  Also something I do is place Dr Schols inserts inside my waders.  Not the cheap ones but the ones with good arch support, and a good heel cup.  That makes walking all day in them easier to take.  The waders I like best are the neophrine ones Cabela's sells with the nylon strap around the ankle to tighten for fit.  Easier to get on and off than the ankle fit ones.  I also wear wool wader socks if I am going to be in water all day, they go from my feet all the way up to my thighs.  I wear a good pair of wool socks for hunting in them.  That's usually enough if you are not standing in a river all day.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
