5mm Remington Mag Conversion?

Has anyone either done, or heard of someone who does a conversion from the old 5mm Remington Magnum to 17 HMR.
I have a 592, that has some sentimental value that I’d like to use, but shells are virtually non-existent, and if I’m going to convert it, I’d just as soon convert to something I can buy, rather that reload.
I heard about a place in Washington State called Redman’s reboring, but the guy never answers his phone.
Any other clues would be appreciated.

Get one of these and do it yourself or have a local gunsmith do it. Shouldn't be too big of a deal.

A fairly simple rebarrel.  I'd bebarrel rather than rebore as there is some collector interested in the 5mm rifles(not nearly as much as in the ammo) and one could reconvert to the original barrel should you wish..  These little rifles are bringing in the $300-500 neighborhood in this area.  The actions on these rifles are quite good..  Barrels are available from Brownells as are the reamers and headspace guages..

I've traveled extensively throughout Canada since 1996 and stop at all area gun shows.

5mm Remington rimfire ammo in Canada is as collectible and as rare as it is here in the lower 48 states.

If it indeed is "available in Canada", you can bet that it is as collectible and as expensive (exchange rate factored in) as it is here.

I found out that Brownells has a liner but the extractor slots would need some work.
Anyone know of a good gunsmith is SouthEastern Wisconsin?
