Can you share your experiences with regards to scoping the #1 RSI, specifically in 7x57. Presuming you have it scoped.... I'm considering a Leupold 1-4 VX II, 1.5-5 VX III, or the 1.25-4 Euro 30. I'm sort of leaning to the Euro 30, and have talked to Ruger and they will exchange the stock rings for the 30mm's, so no problem there... as long as I won't need offset rings, and they don't make them in 30mm. The Euro-30's eye relief is listed as 3.8" - 4.4" on the Leupold website (the VX-II is 3.8-4.3", and the VXIII 3.6 - 4.4"). Also, does the gun look OK when scoped (I know, silly question, please ignore rather than insult if you feel you must...). Thanks !!!

You're probably gonna need those offset rings, along with as much eye relief as you can get with your scope. I just replaced the scope on my No.1, as I wasn't getting the sight picture i wanted. I also found that my Nikon Buckmaster wasn't designed for the offset rings, as the asjustments would hit the rear ring, stopping the scope in the same spot as the standard rings would, making the offset rings a wasted purchase. I put a Leupols M-8 fixed power on the rifle and all is well now, with enough rearward adjustment to give me a full sight picture.

i am using a nikon buckmaster 3-9x40 on my no.1 rsi 30/06 with standard rings.i have had no problems.looks great,one of the most beautiful rifle in the rack.shoots 3/4 inch groups at 100 yds consistently as well.

Never said it didn't shoot well, just said the sight picture wasn't good unless I "stock crawled". The Scope was great, but the Leupold is better for the way I hold a rifle.

I've run into the same problem as Bama Boy when mounting scopes on #1's. Unless the scope has a long tube you may find that you will need offset rings to get the scope far enough back so that you don't have to crawl the stock for a good sight picture.

The biggest mistake I've made lately was to sell my #1 7x57. What a sweet shooter. I solved the scope eye relief problem with a Weaver adapter. It mounts in the Ruger slots then provides a Weaver base so you can move the scope to-and-fro. Of course you will need a set of Weaver style rings. I've used Leupold Vari-X III's on mine and never had a problem with correct eye relief. I've used the Vari-X III's in 1.5-5x and 1.75-6x on my No.1 RSI in 7x57. I really like the 1.5-5x better for this particular rifle. I have also used a 2.5-8x Leupold on my No.1 S. Other No.1's I've owned have worn Swarovski's and other Leupolds. Not one required offset rings. This tells me the rifle fits me pretty good and the eye relief of the Leupold is fine for these rifles.

Just to throw in my two cents worth, I agree with the guys discussing the stock crawl with the #1. I found a Bushnell scope chief in 3x9. It looks like it was made for my #1. Has a generous eyerelief. I have been wanting the 7x57 RSI and have had dreams of a nice fixed 4 power on it. I think in my TN woods that it would be a hot rock setup.
