Any good cast 35 Whelen loads?

I plan on loading up some 210GC  FP bullets for my 35 Whelen, anybody have any loads? They are about 14-15BHN, I am looking for something in the 1800-2100fps. Current powders on hand that I think might work:

IMR-4064, 4320, 3031

BL(C)-2, H322 and standard pistol powders  2400, Unique, 296, H110.

I am using Accurate's XMR-4350 with both 200 and 250 grain flat point gas check bullets.  It does a good job and the powder from Accurate is on sale again at Natchez for I think $79 per 8 lb jug.


You can get good load data on line from Accurate Powder's website and they have a nice little form on there where you can list all of your particulars and they will reply by e-mail with their recommendations.

I had good results in my Whelen with the RCBS 200gr. and IMR 4895 at 1700 or so fps, so either of the powders you list should work. I'd start with the 3031 since it's the fastest of the bunch. Try about 35gr to start and work up from there. You may find some of the dreaded FILLER helps drop the SD's and improve accuracy. For no filler loads IMR 4759 or AA5744 work well too, but I'd start with what you have in stock first.

I shoot Lyman's 358632 (220 grains as loaded, SWC, GC) using surplus 860 and 5010 at almost 15 bhn.  With a 3x scope they shoot into about an inch and a half for 10 shot groups at 100 yards.  Have not chronographed the loads yet.  Used as much powder as I could fit in the case with very light compression as heavy compression will expand the bullet enough so the rounds will not chamber.  BTW, this load works very well on whitetails.
