Hey Mike,
Hope you get a good response on this one.  I also will be very interested in the replies.  I will be casting my own bullets for the .375 JDJ and don't seem to find any good loads for any cast bullets.  I will be going the gas check route for my hunting bullets.  Not sure what grain yet.  I have always leaned towards the heavier bullets when it comes to hunting though.

Are you using gas check bullets or just lead?  When you shoot the amount of rounds I do, it will also be more cost effective to go the cast bullet route.

What I do and it may not be the best thing

I find data for jacketed that matches the closest to the cast bullet I want to use. Then I start with the min. load listed.
say I have a 285 gr cast bullet, I would use the loading data for the 300 gr bullets then work my way up. and watch for pressure signs I have yet to encounter any in my barrels and I am lose to max for the 300 gr bullets. If you have a break make sure you keep it clean from lube buildup

Cast lead in .375 JDJ

Since the arrival of a .375-06 JDJ barrel for Christmas, I have been reconsidering the .375 JDJ's place in my hunting battery ---and cast bullets have come to mind. Rather than using a straight walled cartridge, cast bullets in .375 caliber would seem a natural since the sectional density with heavy bullets would be good. Besides, .375 JDJ is really not the longer range gun that the .309 JDJ, .338 JDJ, and the .375-06 JDJ calibers are so using it as a mid range gun makes sense. Perhaps flat nose jacketed bullets would accomplish the same thing  as cast lead (no expansion)-----a lot like a Corbon Penetrator. Load data is already available for 300 gr bullets----and handloading safety should be considered.   PG

When using cast bullets, do you have a deeper throat cut?

When I try to seat a 260gr. cast bullet to just touch the lands, the bullet extends down past the neck and in to the case. From what I have read, this is not a good thing, exposing the sides of the cast bullet to the inside of the case.

Is this the case or not?
