can I substitute cast for jacketed bullet load?
« on: April 13, 2004, 03:16:43 PM »
I just got a short (19") .280 Rem barrel and looking for loads found a load for a 139 Grain cast GC bullet behind a starting load of 11.0 grains of PB with a max of 15.5 grains of PB. I also have about 1/2 a can of PB left on the shelf but no cast bullets in .284. My loading data for jacketed .280's does not list PB but lists 139 jacketed bullets. Can I substitute the jacketed bullet of the same weight (which I have on hand) behind the 11.0 grains of PB (which I have on hand) as a starting point? I was thinking of an easy shooting load and using up my PB at the same time, I would appreciate any input..Thanks....<><....

I would not use a jacketed bullet for a lead load. The pressure would be much higher.

yOU CAN USE JACKETED BULLET DATA FOR CAST BULLETS, BUT NEVER USE CAST DATA FOR JACKETED BULLETS.
