picked up a Springfield Custom Loaded in a trade

I had a 686+ that was a nice revolver, but I was just never satisfied with it.  So, the other day a fellow officer traded me a Springfield Custom Loaded 1911 stainless with a bunch of extras straight up.  He had shot the 686+ when the owner previous to me had it and always wanted it.  I didn't own a .45ACP in any form; so, I jumped all over the trade.

This is my first 1911.  I'd very much appreciate any links to good 1911 stuff y'all have.  I tried the 1911forum, but those folks had too much attitude for me.

Sounds like you've done well on that trade.  The loaded Springfields are verrrry nice pieces and you should be able to enjoy that sidearm for many years to come.  

As the Moderator on this site I would like to welcome you and say that I hope previous, ummmm, attitudes opined by others don't make you feel unwelcomed.  I hope you find, as I have, that the vast majority of members who frequent these various forums are helpful in the extreme and will welcome you as I have.

All that being said, go buy a couple of hundred rounds and get to know your new Springer.  Mikey.

Welcome to the world of 1911's, Legacy- what a lot of fun u have to look foward to. This is a great forum for just about anything related to guns, and Mikey is one of the most knowledgeable & helpful people u will find on any of the gun forums. Hopefully, your SA won't have "issues"; but if it does, this is a good place to look for assistance. Pistolsmith.com is also a good forum with helpful people, several of whom are topnotch smiths. Thanks for the welcome.  I put some ammo through it the other day.  There was a sharp spot on the safety that had already been rubbing on my hand when handling.  It opened up a little cut in the web of may hand when I started shooting it.  A friend took a fine file to it, and I Dremmeled it when I got home.  It's now pretty smooth.  

I have a lot of things planned for this pistol.  I have a set of the Hogue grips on the way, but I'm going to look for just the right set of grips for it.  Hakem, http://www.imageseek.com/hakan/welcome.html, makes some nice grips.  I like the "half and halfs".  

I've been detailed to work the G8 Summit this summer.  I plan to take my overtime from that to have a gunsmith give a good workig over.

The Springfield is a really nice gun and there customer service is second to none, it sounds like you got a really nice piece for your first 1911, I hope you enjoy it. :D

SA's lifetime warranty goes with the gun.  I contacted their customer service and was told that the warranty was still valid on this pistol even though I wasn't the original buyer.  That only makes sense.  They can make the product right for minimal cost and get a much better chance at future purchases.
