Hey there, new to the forum today.     I've been a shooter for a long time.  I started shooting rimfire silhouette and caught the bug.  I built up a sweet 10/22 that shoots better than I do.  I went out to a cast bullet silhouette match(50-200yds any rifle any sight must use cast bullets) and had a ball.  I started looking for a rifle that I could shoot the cast match as well as the High Power match with.  I found a Savage short action and stock, then found a 7mm-08 bull barrel.  I shot at the high power targets last weekend and.......well I gotta try this.  So here I am, to glean all the info I can.

Now if those dies will just hurry up and get here....... :wink:

Tell me a little about your set-up. I also shoot the SB silhouette with a 10/22 that shoots a whole lot better than I do. Mine is Basicaly a Briley barreled action w/ threaded barel to reciever fit, walther barel, bloop tube, gatewood offhand stock, kid 2 stage trigger, leupie boosted to 18x40x40 w/ silhouettte dot by primeier reticles.

This is my first year with the gatewood stock. I was shooting a Mcmillian but never found it to suit my grip and allways fought it.

The targets are smaller....I think.  I'll check this weekend and let you know.  Fun shoot.

Your set up sounds awesome.  I started with a Ruger action with a 20" Green Mountain .920 barrel epoxied into the receiver.  I used a mix of Power Custom and VQ parts for the trigger.  It is right at 1.5lbs and breaks clean.  I did some bolt work to improve cycling as well as more consistant firing pin strike.  All of this is bedded into a Boyds Blaster stock.(Barrel is bedded for the first 3" then free floats.  Right now it has a Tasco 6-18x on high rings.  The gun shoots very well.  .104" at 50m for 5 rounds of CCI Velociter.  Match ammo goes a little tighter.(Not much though)  Shoot I'm getting about 1/4" at 50m with Win DynaPoint.

Now if I can just get the nut behind the but to shoot nearly as well. :lol:

In 1988 I had the opportunity to start shooting cast bullets only from a rifle at the standard 200 meter handgun silhouette range.  What a blast that was and still is.  Shooting the steel targets is addicting. I shoot cast bullets in my 7mm Mauser (7X57) with reduced loads and I worked up the loads so they would take the 200 Meter full sized Ram down.

I still shoot cast bullets at the Steel Targets.  I shoot 30-06 Cast bullets out to ranges that I can't tell you about 'cause most normal people wouldn't believe it.

The 7mm-08 and the 7X57 Mauser cartridges are similar in loading data.  I have my data for the Mauser in an Excel Spreadsheet.  If you would like to have a copy, send me your email address.

The most sucessful cast 7mm Bullet has been the Saeco #281 from a 4-cavity mold.  It weighs 135 grains from my mold.
