Does anyone shoot American Pioneer FFG in their MZ's. Saw some today that came in pre measured 100 gr. airtight tubes. They are refillable and they are about $1.80 ea. This company is formerly ?Clean Shot? I think. Any info???

I've shot it,..but don't regularly shoot it.   Don't think very highly of it,so far anyway, for these reasons:

Quite sensitive to moisture.  Each can, however, has a few small moisture collecting packets inside each pound container to help prevent cake up.

Leaves a fair amount of white/gray residue in the powder measure, almost like powdered sugar?

The powder seems to me that it is on the weaker side of any charges that I have shot, grain for grain,as compared to Pyro RS anyway.  I even used FFFg APP thinking it would at least be comparible to Pyro RS in FFg.
May be just my perception,however.

I was not very happy with my groups at 100 yds and tried various projectile types and charges from 70,...up to 100 grains.

This said, I wanted to try it because it offers water cleanup and hearing from others that have gotten great results by using it. :? Also, have not tried it in the Huntsman, only in a CVA Mag Hunter so far.

Positives: The patch between shots seemed even better than 777 and didn't notice any crud ring problems like I get with 777.

WOW, $ 1.80 per/tube?? You must have meant per pack of like 6 ?
At 100 gr for $1.80, that would be like $ 126.00/lb.

I paid $17.00/lb bottle, which is 7,000gr/lb,  or 70 (100gr) shots per lb. so would cost $ 0.24 per shot + tax.

Wow I did misfigure in my haste. The actual cost was $17.95 for a can of 20 pre-packed 100 gr. tubes. Might be worth a try in the Huntsman underneath a 295 gr. Powerbelt. I like the idea of the tubes....easy to refill and carry to the field for a quick reload and cheaper than a brass measure.

Have looked at some 777 and Pyro too. 777 seemed triple high and the pyro I was really wanting to try to avoid because of the mess. I will pay the extra for the 777 but I thought I might try the American Pioneer first.....get the refill tubes even if I dont like the powder.

I had a lot of no fires with A.P.

I switched to 777 and have never had a problem since.  In fact, I have a doe in my freezer it worked so well.

lik2hunt, I have had great luck and no crud ring others speak about using 777 in my TC's, 45,50,54 and 56 calibers, they all work great, a Cherokee and Renegades. I premeasure the 777 into old 35 mm film containers and it works slick. I did the same thing with Pyrodex RS and have never had a problem, cheap too,  although the 35 mm film canisters are getting harder to come by since I and most of my friends have gone over to digital cameras. Even in the coldest weather you can pinch the film canister closed a bit and pour the powder directly into the barrel...<><....

I switched to 777 from pyrodex pellets for my huntsman some time ago.
I had the plastic tubes the pellets came in, so I cut them so I have
exactly 90 gr loose 777 in each... neat to carry in a fly box, with 295
powerbelts, and loaded primer carriers. Makes deer hunting easy!
I am stunned with the accuracy of this setup... Maybe I just got lucky when I added the huntsman barrel, to my 45 / 70 frame...

Think I better just go with my first insticts and get the 777, probably will work the best in the Huntsman and with the reduced loads will stretch the $ enough to make it worth it. You Okies (WScott and Speck) know where to find it about the cheapest? I travel most of the central part of the state so I could get it anywhere in that vicinity.

lik2hunt, :D

Good choice. You shouldn't go wrong with the 777 and because it's 15% hotter,...a 85 gr charge will = 100gr of Pyro /or black pwdr.

At $20 a lb (going rate around here without too much shopping around) you will get 82 shots per lb if you use 85 grs of 777. That's just $0.24 for each shot.
The APP you are considering would run approx $0.90 per shot (pre measured in the tubes). Yikes!

Picked up a couple of lbs of 777 last week for $16/ea. Chain sporting goods store in our state called MC Sporting Goods.

Oh,.... I love the 35mm clear soft plastic cannisters also. Will let you guys in on secret of where to get em.
Go to the Wally-World Photo Center, and ask if you can have some,or save some for you. Went there last year and they reached under the counter and gave me 2 large bags full of them. Asked me if I wanted the black ones, or the clear. :)
I believe I have a life time supply of the clear!
I have a clear Shimano case for each gun and one labeled "Test" for different powder tryouts. Each case holds 18 pre-loaded & labeled film cannisters. Going to the range,....grab gun and one or two cases and away I go.

Ok I like the idea of the 35mm canisters too. This is a great forum and you are a great bunch of guys, I would have never thought about that actually, well maybe eventually. I am a diabetic  :(  and the test strips that I use in my Glucometer come in black cases similar to the 35mm canisters. I think I'll give them a try, they are a bit thinner too.

Try Outdoor Outfitters or Outdoor America.  They are both in OKC and give great service.

Stay away from Bass Pro, too high.

I went by the photo dept. at Wal-mart yesterday and sure enough....they gave me a whole sack full of empty 35mm film canisters. I even got some for Fuji and Kodak Max that are oval shaped so that will aid in the pouring factor. Thanks for the tip....pretty cool idea  8) .
