For those of you who reload, do you neck size only your brass? Just ordered a heavy 22-250 barrel. Thanks-Tad

I have a 15" and a 26" heavy in 22-250. One of them (can't remember which without looking at my loading notes) likes full length sizing, but the other prefers neck sizing. Go figure....

I have a custom 6.5-06 Ackley Encore barrel and I only neck size for it. The gun closes just fine. I was always under the impression that cases HAD to be full length sized for Encores/contenders. Not true. So far I've gotten 5 or 6 loadings out of each case.

The chambers in the Encore and TC Contender are no different than other chambers. I have two Encore Rifle barrels and two 15" barrels in the following calibers and I neck size.

Rifle= 7mm TCU
Rifle= 243

Pistol 308 Win
Pistol 7mm BR

I also have over 10 TC Contender barrels and I neck size for all of them, except for straight walled cases.

However, if I continuously fire maximum loads constantly, I have had to full length size the 7mm TCU brass to assure easy closing of the gun.

I don't shoot Maximum loads. I have been neck sizing for decades to avoid the time with brass cleaning after FL sizing.

I even load my rifle loadings on a Dillon 650 progressive loader with a neck sizer only.

I only neck size....I keep a set of brass for a specific rifle. I have worn out a .308 win. barrel and I'm still using that original brass in the new barrel. The only cartridge that I do not neck size is .223, I have several rifles and a couple T/C barrels and don't even try to keep the brass separate for each one. I also trim to length, turn the necks, deburr the flash hole and use a primer pocket tool. It is a bit of work but I think it makes them all shoot better.

I have a bolt action 308 that I am fixing up into a target rifle that I will probably start just neck sizing for. I just talk to a tech. at sinclair the other day about what to get to start doing it with. They are good people there at Sinclair they will not sell you something that you don't need. If I do it for my 7mm RM I will have to get another set of dies.

rpseven, you can get a lee collet die for a reasonable price. i use it for my 7 mag. , works great.
