I was just wondering when to turn the light on . I've tried calling at night and had a yote run right across the top of my , kinda make your but pucker up situation lol. anyways any input would be nice .

I have a rheostat wired into my spotlight so I can turn it down so low you can hardly see it. That is enough to make eyes glow but not enough to spook them. I use it a LOT while I am calling. When I spot eyes, I set up for the shot and turn up the light. They usually give you a few seconds to make your shot.

Hi Joe here in Ark you cant call at night with a gun lol if you could i would do most of my hunting i have went out at night WITHOUT a gun just my caller and a new tape to try out if i had use the tape in daytime and hadent called any thing in with it i would try it out at night and was soon as i started calling i would use the light and i had grey fox almost run right over me and coyotes come in good too and i had a big owl fly down one night and land on my speaker lol

as big has he was he could have the speaker i thought VM

I use a red filter on the light and if its not a cordless model of spotlight I leave it on all the time that I'm calling. The red light doesn't seem to bother them enough to count. On a cordless model its hard to say. Make a call, wait a little bit then turn it on. I call from the back of a pick-up to avoid getting them in my lap like that.

I think the light being off and then suddenly coming on will spook them more than the red light being continually on. There is a company called "Lightforce", I think thats the name of it anyway, that makes a real nice light that clips onto the scope tube that comes with a red filter. Or you can do like I did and go to Wal-Mart and look for some red Krylon that is formulated to stick to plastics better than ordinary Krylon and spray a light coat of it on your spotlight lens.

I'm gonna look pretty seriously at one of those Lightforce scope lights as soon as I can save up enough pennies to swing the deal.

Whenever i hunt yotes at night, i use a cordless light with a red lense. The red light doesn't bother them, just like the other guys said. But i try to do something a little different. I got one of those cheap night vision monoculars from wal-mart. I use that as often as i can. Helps eliminate movement from using the light. When i see a yote coming my way, thats when i ditch the night vision and kick on the red light. Works almost everytime.

The little mini mag has an accessory kit, with case, lanyard, and a red and amber filter for the lens. Extra AA batteries are easy to carry, just in case they run low. A bright or high candle power light will spook them even with a red filter. The mini mag is not so bright that it spooks them when using the red filter, and they will either stand there looking at you or continue coming in. Also the mini mag is small enough that you can hold it with your hand that is on the forearm.
