snowmobile checklist
« on: August 10, 2004, 10:04:35 AM »
I reckon for those of us in the great white north the snowmobile counts as an ATV.

We’ve had a stretch of cold wet weather and it’s got me thinking of winter. I share an old snowmobile with my uncle but this year I plan to buy my own. I built a gear box out of plywood and mounted on an old pair of skis to tow behind the sled for ice fishing.

Here's a list of my gear did I miss anything?

Saddle bags

Mag light
First aid kit
Tool kit
Spare fuses and belt
Reflective space blanket
Flare pen
2 wire snares
AR-7 collapsible .22
Matches & Zippo
Snow dye

Gear Box

Coleman 442 backpacker stove & fuel
2 cast iron fry pans (1 large&1 small)
nesting pot set
coffee pot & coffee
spatula
cups/cutlery/plates for 4
cooking oil
fish coating
salt/pepper/sugar/ketchup
hunting & filleting knives
tarp & rope
rods/tip-ups/tackle
bait
ice auger (strapped to the lid)

Kevin, now that is a pretty good list.  Not being an ice fishing or snow mobiling guy, since we don't get much snow ever down here, I did not find one very important item, or maybe just over looked it.  TOILET PAPER  !!!!  LOL   My pack for the atv or Mule is much smaller, but you listed some really important life saving items there.  Good list.

How about an extra drive belt and spare plugs.  I buy a new belt, run it for 20-30 hours till it is partially worn in and then put it away.  The reason for that is so that in an emergency, you don't have to fumble with a hard, stiff belt.  I also carry extra gear and injection oil.

the spare belt and plugs i always carry so i didn't feel the need to list them. toilet paper is a good idea, but when the thermometer drops below -20 C i'd rather hold it. i did forget the axe and/or folding saw
