Forming 9.3 X 57 Brass

Can 9.3 X 57 brass be formed from 8 X 57 brass by just running thru a 9.3 X 57 sizing die?

I've not done it, but I can't but see how you will come up a few millimeters short.  This may or may not be significant in your rifle.  

Is the 9.3 x 57 the same case?  My statement above assumes the same case dimensions except the neck.

I believe that 9.3x62 brass is availalbe from Graf and Sons, and I think all you would have to do is put them through a trim die and cut them to length without having to go through the trouble of fire-forming, etc.  Mikey.

Check your sizing die to see if it has a tapered plug on the decapping pin.
Mine has on my 9.5X57 and I form all my brass from 30-06 and then trim it back. You should have no trouble forming 9.3 from 8mm. Saves a ton of money also.

No picture with dimensions, but the dimensions are, from COTW (8th):

Bullet diameter:  .365
Neck Diameter:   .389
Shouldar Diameter:  ..428
Base Diameter:    .468
Rim Diameter:      .469
Case Length:        .2.24
Cartridge Length:  3.23

It is based on the 8x57 case, so you could probably neck up and be ok.

That I would, Licensed Clinical Psychologist and do Forensic work as well.

Since the 9.3 x 57 and the 9 x 57 Mauser are necked up versions of the 7.9 (8mm) x 57 Mauser the body taper and neck appears identical in the pictures.  

COTW lists the following loads

232 SP    IMR 3031    47gr    2330mv   2785me
286 SP    IMR 3031    43gr    2070mv    2705me
286 SP          FL                   2065         2714     (factory load)

I'd take the lightest bullet you have loads for, drop the load by 15%, neck up the case and give it a try.   You will find out the shape of your chamber at least.  

Either that or do a chamber cast with the stuff from Brownells.  Then compare the chamber cast to your necked up cases and see how they compare.
