I just ordered a 24" ss .223 heavy barrel form FOX RIDGE . Got it through Eds Contenders & he said about 10 weeks. Has anyone had any experience with this set up good/bad ? I plan to put a Leupold 3x9 VXII on it with Leupold detachable mounts. I want to use it for punching paper/groundhogs/yotes to 250/300yards.Any good load data would be appreciated.

I have the 23 inch barrel on my contender, With the above mentioned ammo in both 45 grain HP and 55 grain FMJ i was holding gorups between 3/4 of an inch and 1 inch off the bench.

Need bigger scope.

I don't think the 3X9 will do that barrel any justice. I use a 6X18 with the fine/thin crosshairs and it's perfect at 200-300 on small targets.

SOUP:   You'll love that set-up ................... 24 Heavy 223.

Barrel Manufactures are getting the business !

I was reading about a 20" Bull Barrel 223 a Rifle Shooter had .............. accurate is what he said ... and that he was near nuts about it. I've read where the 24" Heavy is perfect balance ..... that kind of says that the 20" Bull would be as well ................... nice.

got a 24" bull from Ed myself about 2yrs ago. My barrel loves 50gr hornady sxsp's and win 748, but the sod poodles don't.  :)

I've got a cheap BSA 6-24 on mine. The scope is pathetic but gets the job done. I'd go with a higher power quality scope if I were in your shoes.

Good luck
