Lights for predator hunting
« on: March 19, 2004, 11:50:02 AM »
Has anyone ever used Optronics Nightblaster Max 350's?  I was thinking about buying one and using it to hunt coyote and some fox at night.  The hand-held spotlight just isn't cutting it.  Any input on this light is appreciated.

It's a nice light. It's definately bright enough, almost too bright in fact. It'll mount on your scope, and stay put pretty good.

I've come full circle on my night hunting as far as lights go. I started out years ago with a handheld. I switched to gun mounted lights for a while, and I've been back to using only handhelds now for a long time.

I hunt alone almost all the time. I have to do all the sweeping with the light myself, and it's very aggravating trying to spot with a hand held, then switch to the gun light for a shot. You could use the gun light for spotting, but it's not only un-safe(might point it in a bad direction), but it'd keep you swinging your gun around while you should be trying to sit still.

I practice shooting at night quite a bit. If you'll practice holding the light, and gun together, you'll get where it's second nature.

Scope Light

I was thinking about getting a scope light too but had second thoughts because of the amount of movement you have to do in swinging the gun (sounds dangerous) while scanning the area.  What I did was duct taped my handheld spotlight onto an old camera tri-pod.  Now, I can sit with my rifle up to my shoulder resting on either my knee or shooting sticks and scan with minimal movement.  When something is spotted I can leave the light pointed at it and use both hands to aim my gun.  To me, it seems to work really well.

yote slayer,I think the the optronics nightblaster in 250 was better than the 350 model. The 350 was brighter but I thought it did not throw a 350 yd beam of light. My 250 model really shoots a good beam of light, without the red lens cover it works like a spot light.Good luck&good calling.
