I did it again
« on: April 23, 2004, 04:56:23 PM »
I went a couple weeks ago to my sons sixth grade class and talked to them all about trapping . The teacher let my son help me out and I thought it would be good for the kids to see that my son who was their age was into trapping . The class seemed really interested , lots of quwstions . Of course all the girls with their "eeeewwwww's " were just as into the furs when they came around as the boys were .
As I was leaving , I had four younger girls (4th grade ) stop me in the hall and touch all the furs . They asked me some questions and asked me to come to their class . I told them to ask their teacher and I'd be happy to . I got a phone call from the teacher and we set up a date and time .

I introduced myself and told a little bit about what I trap and methods used , then turned it over to them . There is always alot of questions so I figured I would make this more of a question and answer deal . What a bunch of interested kids . I explained the early fur traders and need for food then and why it is still important even if not for food . I explained wildlife management and the consiquences animals pay dut to the low fur prices of late due to the Anti's . At the end of the session the teacher thanked me and told me she never was really for trapping and never saw the need . She told me " you opened my eyes to the need for trapping ". I thought that was a huge accomplishment .Today in the mail I recieved a huge envelope full of thank you letters from the class . THAT WAS COOL !

I will quote some of the things these kids said .

' Everything was cool and made me want to take up trapping some day "

'I thought that trapping would be boaring but when you came in and talked to us it realy was very cool "

"Thank you for bringing in you fur and egucating us about traping it was very intresting . I never once was bord the traps were very intresting and neat we are very thankful to have you come and speak to us "

' I probably will take up trapping after your very cool storys "

After typing them quotes , I noticed they were all from letters from the girls . I didnt want to take a whole page and put all the quotes in here but you get the jist of it . Those were from the top 5 letters in the pile .
I was wanting to share this with you guys , thought ya may enjoy it . :D
If an animal activist is being mauled by a bear should we stop it , or , " let nature take its course?"
