I have not posted on this forum before. I was over in Fargo ND today at the Scheels all sports store and the had a new Encore rifle with the 24 inch 45-70 barrel. I have had several Contenders over the years in a lot of calibers but this is my first Encore. I love the 45-70 but will soon add one handgun hunting calibers and a mid range rifle size like maybe a 6.5-06 or 6MM-06. I have a 30-06 and a 280. Any suggestions from you longer term users? Oh I will be adding a fifty cal. Muzzle loader barrel as well.
shot placement is everything.

James, welcome to GB's place - I have owned a Contender in several configurations for over 30 years now.  I enjoy the Encore more with the heavier calibers like the .45/70 - it just works better for me.  I am sure you will enjoy your Encore and come back to visit often.

Thanks for the replies. I have long been interested in the Encore. One of the main reasons is that you can get some calibers that just are not availabe without going to a custom rifle. I think the 6MM-06 will be one of my first barrels. For a Handgun barrel for deer I am thinking of the 250 Savage or 7MM-08.
