10" - .223...just can't get it right...
« on: May 02, 2004, 02:51:49 PM »
According to the Nosler reloading book, H335 should be the most accurate powder for a 40 grain bullet.   Having tried many different powders, I still can't get them to group in my 10" barrel.

I'm thinking of changing to a 50 grain bullet with benchmark.  Anyone have any experience with this combo?

Thanks for the help.

tipiguy,
Although I have never used 40 grn bullets in my 10" 223. I have used H335 and it was very inaccurate. My understanding of the problem is that the slower burning powders will not burn consistantly in a short barrel. This leads to your pressure varying from shot to shot. The result is big groups.  My barrel likes IMR4198 . 2400 works good but at a lower velocity than the 4198 I also use 322 and 4895 but, my 10" prefers a faster powder. Hope that this helps.
