HK SLB 2000?
« on: December 04, 2003, 04:41:56 PM »
Anyone know what these are like?  I've never seen one in person, but have seen ads for them drop in price to under $700.

I've also seen 10 round mags advertised.  Any scope mounting accessories out there?  Any idea whether it uses impingement or a piston or what?

Price Drop on H&K SLB 2000

Saw one of these in .30-06 for under $700 in local gunstore. I did not like the the way the rifle looked or handled. It had a mark down from just above $1000 and could be had for $675 according to the sticker. Any others own or shoot one? I always like to hear the opinions of a gun owner.

I handled one but it looked and felt awful. I wound up spending my money on a Benelli R1 in 30-06.  Jimmyp

HK SLB 2000 information

8)  Hello, to anyone who is interested in the HK SLB 2000. I recently purchased one of these babies. It is unusual in feel but you rapidly get comfortable once you have fired it a few times. I have only had it out to the range twice since I picked it up but already have fallen in love with this ugly duckling. It has a very smooth action, fast cycle and at 100 yards, I can keep it in the black all day with the factory fixed sites. I picked it up at my local gun shop here in San Jose for $850 + tax, it came with the 5 round and a 10 round detachable magazines and weaver type scope mount, mount is not attached yet but can be put on quickly with the supplied screws and allen wrench as the receiver and barrel are already tapped. It's looks and feel remind me of the BAR, especially with the 10 round magazine in it.

Since I picked it up I have done some research and have seen it advertised online from $800.00 up to $1,400.00, it also appears that HK is no longer importing the SLB 2000 into the U.S. So, if you do get one plus can find extra magazines for it, I think that it's value can only go up.

Panzer Bill,
Thanks for your actual shooting report. To me, the SLB 2000 is one ungainly and unattractive looking rifle, and in the showroom does not handle well. But, apparently you had the same original misgivings and found it to shoot quite well. The Benelli R1 looked so odd and ungainly that I picked one up in the showroom and it handled great for me. There is truth to the adage that appearances are deceiving. From your report it seems that the SLB 2000 is a good shooter. I have seen some reports on functional problems with the R1. Perhaps the SLB 2000 is an alternative. How well does it point and handle once you get the feel of the weapon? Do the iron sights line up well? Would enjoy reading your thoughts after shooting the firearm with a scope.
Regards

8) Hello again, I found the fixed sights lined up as good if not better then my Savage 110.  While I have not taken it out hunting yet, I have done a little quick snap shooting at the range and still ended up with fairly tight groups.  Three rounds in a two inch group, this was done standing, off hand.  I will submit a detailed report on scope shooting after I have decided what scope to mount.  Until then I will continue to practice with the rifle using the factory sights.  I think due to the exagerated pistol grip of the stock, it is designed well for quick point and shoot, it seems to just snap right into place with the sights lined up, ready to go.  I almost did not get it because it originally felt ungainly but after handling it on several visits to the gun shop, it felt better so I ended up getting it.  As I said before, with the 10 round magazine inplace, it looks like a small BAR.  I hope this information helps others to decide to give this ugly duckling more than a second glance and give it a chance.  I handled the Benelli and although it felt more comfortable than the SLB 2000 did at first, there was just something about the HK SLB that attracted me more than the Benelli(besides the price), like comparing a Ferri sports car to a pick-up truck, one looks great and goes fast, but the other will get you where you want to go, no matter what the terrain is.
