spanish mauser 8mm

Hi guys, does anyone have info on this type of 8mm is it simaler to the german K98.

There were 2 different types of Model 98 look alikes, the Model 43 for the army, and the Model 44 for the airforce.  The army variant will take the spanish bayonet with the odd shape, the airforce one has the winged emblem on the receiver.  There were also the model 1916 in 7 mm, some converted to the .308.

There are so many Variations of the 98 mauser, that some are
quite difficult to identify.  I have one that I have tried to ID
for about 20 years, and still am not 100% sure I know.
I believe it was used by an Italian unit in the Spanish Civil War by the crest on the reciever.  If I am right, there was only about 200 of them stamped and issued.

From what I've read, the Spanish M43/M44 is based on the Kar98k, though the stock and handguard are different.
The Airforce model has a front sight with heavy ears - much like the Polish Radom Mausers.  Both Army and Airforce models can be found with straight or bent bolt handles.
I have an M44 (unfortunately with bubba'd stock) that has the bent bolt handle.
These rifles were the basis of the later FR8 transition rifles, rechambered in 7.62 Nato.  My FR8 also has the bent bolt handle.
