building a singleshot pistol

has anyone built a singleshot pistol? I am looking for plans and tips. I know about the DeHass books,but I am on a fixed income and can not afford to buy a lot of books,plus I am a cheap bastard. I have a few ideas,like useing a 51 gripframe,a 73 hammer and trigger, I want to build in 22 rimfire,45 colt. any and all tips are welcome. thanks guys

I would check with BATFE and the Justice Department website first.  I know you can build such things but there may be forms required and I know there will be rules expecially for pistols.  You may want to reconsider the DeHaas books.  They can sometimes be found on EBay for a lesser amount and learning from someone elses 'mistakes' is usually cheaper..

a person is allowed to make a firearm for his own use,except full autos,wmd,you can build a hand gun,rifle,shotgun,you do not need a serial number on it.you can not sell it,or give it away,its yours for life.the batf is clear on this.yea,I may have to buy his books.I know what you mean.I was thinking of getting some modeling clay,and useing that to make a prototype.that way I could get all the parts close to what I wanted.well off to the old drawing board
