That cartridge in a good bolt gun is fun with cast bullets..We had an old Lyman Gas check mold...250 + grains with our wheel weight metal + tin alloy. Shot them as cast with just rubbing some allox lube in the groves of the bullet.& tapping the GC on the base.We flared the resized cases by hand with a slight taon a tapered steel punch..It was moa at 100 yds in an older Interarms mark X bolt gun with only a 4 power scope!!! That gun could shoot..We started with Unique powder...In the mid range of the charge weights listed in the lyman loading cast bullet book..& If memory serves me we ended up with about a 1500 fps loading using IMR 4198...I have not found my old reloading notebook..Most of the info about that gun & the ammo we made for it went to alaska..Have not heard much from that guy since..What Brand/model rifle & scope did you get ?? Good luck with that old classic...enjoy it...mike in ct

My 375H&H is an Encore. I know that this round would be better served in a good bolt gun but I plan on hunting in the states an feel one shot one kill will do the job!! I luv the 375 and the way the Encore carries + it seems to really shoot good with the factory barrel, I have a bushnell 3x9 on now, but plan on putting my pennys back for a leupoled. If I go bear hunting, I will use this rifle and use 44 mag handgun for back up. I like hunting with single shots because shot placement is key with anything you shoot, so Ya need to make it count. I will look for the lyman book this week and see what I can find out! Thanks for your post!! Might get a 375 H&H bolt gun down the road!! :D

Vhunter,
Here's a test load I shot but never have refined yet.  Just can't seem to find the time.  I was hoping you would get quite a few replies to your question so I could learn some more.  This is with wheel weight lead with added antimony and tin so I estimate they were some where around 16BH or so.
Caliber:  375 H & H
Amount:  10 Rounds
Bullet: Lyman 375449,  Weight:  264 Gr.
Powder:  IMR 4895, 43 grains (Test load, first time trying).
Primer:  CCI 250 Magnum Rifle (Note: Book called for CCI-200 but I had already loaded with CCI 250 and decided to use them since pressure was much lower than any jacketed rounds shot through it)
Case:  (R - P)
Crimp:  Crimped bullets where case was just short of the 2nd grease groove.
Distance:  100 Yards
Grouping:  Maximum spread for 10 rounds was just over 3 inches but 8 rounds would fit into a 1 ½ inch circle.  Five rounds touched at no more than ¾ inch group.  A better shooter may get better groups than me with this load but I was pretty happy.  Pretty mild recoil, really mild for a 375 H&H.  I like this load a lot :)  Probably running at about 1800 fps.  No leading what so ever.  A load with a lot of fun and potential.  Only problem was the impact was over 5 inches to the right and low from where the 260 grn Noslers impact.  Seems like a lot but maybe its the shooter and not the equipment.  I plan to play with this load some more when I get the chance.

375 H&H w cast bullets

For rabbit hunting I use my 375 with a 270 grain cast bullet at 1300 fps.  Nice and accurate.  I'd have to go look up the powder charge.

An advantage the 375 H&H has over the newer improved blown out 375's is that the gentle shoulder taper allows accuracy with reduced loads.

I shoot a 255 gr. plain base with 20 gr. of Blue Dot. Nothing fast or spiffy, but it delivers decent accuracy.

Vhunter

I shoot a load simular to Chief's but I'm using some pulldown surplus 4895.  IMR 4895 is give almost the same performance with the same load.

I also use 377449 cast of WWs, sized .377, a Hornady GC and lubed with Javlina in all but the lead lube groove.  I use 46 gr of 4895 and a 1.5 gr dacron filler.  Fire formed cases are neck sized and a standard Lyman .375 M-die is used.  I seat the bullet so the case mouth is half way up the second driving band covering all the lubed grooves.  No crimp is used.

My M70 has a 2.5X Weaver on it and the cross hair covers about 2" at 100 yards.  None the less it puts 10 shots into around 2 MOA all day long.  The M70 has a 1-12" twist so the load runs right at 2200 fps.  It is a very good practice load and I would not hesitate to hunt deer, blk bear or elk out to 200 yards with it.  Not much good for rabbits though, if you want to eat them.

BTW; 36 gr of AA5744 with no filler works pretty good too at 1852 fps.
