I have read all 19 pages of this forum and cannot find the answer to a question that I have about a 7mm rem.mag. encore barrel.  Why are they never mentioned?  Does the encore 7mm mag barrel shoot good?  Most bolt guns shoot very good in this caliber.  Is there a problem or am I missing something, or is it just NOT a popular encore barrel? I would really like to have one, but need feedback.

Well I just bought a custom 7Mag Encore barrel from Steve and Virgin Valley, and I'll bet if they didn't shoot good, he wouldn't give a 1 inch grouping at 100 yards guarantee.

The 7 Mag is one of the flattest shooting magnums with manageable recoil. If anything the reason some people don't like the round is because it simply ruins too much meat on runt deer.

Runt deer don't carry big racks though.   :P

Another "complaint" (if you can call it that,) is that it can be hard on bbls, much like the .300 Win Mag.  But I guess it comes down to this round being one of those "lesser known but greatly loved" type rounds.  It gets the job done.  Funny thing is that I read an article by Col. Boddington about the 7mm cal family of magnums.  He made a good point which could also explain why you dont hear too mcuh about this round.  We as Americans really LOVE our .30 bores and never seemed to have accepted the 7 bore for what its really worth.  Too bad, really.

Well the 7mag is my favorite hunting round. That is all I use to hunt with. I have a 308 and a 2506 and I always use my 7mag. Mainly because it gets the job done. I have a custom bullberry barrel for mine. I had a t/c factory barrel that I sold to a friend and we floated the forend and it will shoot half inch to one inch group @ 100 yds so thats not bad for a factory barrel.

Recoil is nothing when on a hunt - one shot. Recoil is a factor when shooting paper - fun at the Rifle Range with several shots. A 7mm-Mag, belted cartridge, will kick your teeth loose ... can get you to closing eyes and yanking trigers ..... I love all cartridges-calabers and firearms, but I enjoy less recoil when shooting for fun. I'm not sure that a 7mm-Mag burns all the powder, and there's lots of muzzle blast / load makes a difference. When your young, you want cannons .... I did - but now I bring them down a bit. 7mm-08, 223, 22 Mag, 22 Long, 12G, 20G, 45 Auto, Paint ball gun for back yard. My big one was a 300 Win Mag, belted - a crusher ,,,, also had a 41 Mag, 270, 30-06, 9mm, 45-70, 50 Cal Muz, and the story goes on. Now I shoot the 22 Mag more because it draws less attention in the area ..................... have had people call the law when I was hunting on open land with permission - they move out here from the City and just don't know. The 7mm-Mag has recoil and blast .. more than needed at the Range, and that's where I do most of my shooting.

I have one in Rem 700 that I will put up against anyone's hunting rifle.  It will shoot .25" groups at 100 yards and 1.5" groups at 300 yards.  I don't consider myself to be a expert marksman (yet) either.

The only reason I don't have an encore barrel in this caliber is because of the gun mentioned above.  I just don't see the need for two barrels of that caliber.

I don't know about the encore recoil with the 7 mag, but I find that my 700 is no worse than a 700 in .30-06, 280, etc.  It's not a "dream" to shoot, but I have no problem putting 20+ rounds through it per session if needed.

I just posted a topic in regards to encore recoil pads.  I think that that may be the answer to tame many calibers in the encore, including the 209 x 50.

I have one of T C s custom barrels in 7 mag. All I have shot in it yet is factory ammo. It will cut bullet holes at 100 yards will remington 150 grain core lokts you buy for 16.00 dollars a box. I going to get the dies and try reloading for it.

THANKS for the responses.  I am well aware of what a 7 mag can do.  I have loaded them for years.  I was just concerned about an Encore barrel since they are seldom mentioned.  I don't have any doubts now and will be purchasing one shortly.   :D   :grin:   :D
