T/C warranty work?
« on: May 06, 2004, 10:14:55 AM »
Just bought the new thumbhole Omega yesterday, and when I put a sling on it the front swivel popped out with almost no force applied. Looks like the hole was stripped from the factory.
I can ship it back to T/C, but what is their warranty like? Will they reimburse me for the shipping since it was their fault? I'd think they should and I don't want to do business with them if I have to foot part of the bill for a factory defect.
The other option is to return it to Cabela's and do an exchange. Those of you with T/C experience, which would probably work out better for me?
Thanks...

To tell the truth, I just had this happen to me as well. I just fixed mine myself though. I canibalized my TK-2000 front stud and stud holder to fix it. All I did was cut a big part of the stud holder off so it'd fit in the ramrod slot and then carefully removed a little wood so the stud holder would not interfere with the ramrod. Fortunately I requested the swivel stud when I got my TK-2000 (just had a screw in the hole) and they sent the stud and holder.

I have no idea if you have any ability to fix things, but you might look into that your self. I don't know if you could get the parts from them though. Another option would be to look at uncle mikes stud parts.

T/C would fix it but.... I am not sure how the Omega stud goes in, but the stud came off my Encore.  I bought the stud with the machine screw end for a $1 at the gunstore.  Drilled the hole through the forend and counterbored the inside of the forend with a forstner bit.  Installed the stud with a nut and lockwasher and some locktite.  I assume an Omega could be fixed like this also.

If you send it back you are going to get something back that has the same method of installation, and as others have also said, it does not work real good.  Mine broke when I was pulling the gun into a treestand, luckily the gun was only about a foot off the ground (I do not tie my rope to the sling anymore just in case).

I could fix it myself, but since the gun is 1 day out of the store I figured I shouldn't have to.  Besides, I'm getting married/honeymooning this weekend and can't shoot it for a couple weeks so I might as well get it taken care of.
Thanks for the info on how you fixed yours.  If it happens out of warranty later I'll know what to do.

Is that really any excuse?

Congratulations.

As to your Omega, (personally) the home remedy seems the smart choice. A phone call will let you know the specifics, of course,  but certainly Cabelas will send you a replacement, and T/C will warranty it. Little way around the shipping of the gun to one or the other that I can see, which seems more time-consuming than your own quick fix.

I did consider the home solution but getting the parts (ie finding a threaded stud) would have been problematic in my location I think.  Plus I just have a problem on principle with having to do that to a NEW new gun.  Since I'm going to be gone for awhile I mailed it off to T/C.  I've heard nothing but positives about them (part of the reason for the choice of purchase).
It was PAINFUL to mail it off without ever getting to shoot it... :(

Andy, all your choice naturally-- though a phone call to T/C seems logical. Would they need more than a return of the stock?
