Last sat. I caught the first channel cat of the new season. The water temp was 51 and I caught him on a piece of cut shad. ( suprise huh ). At first the only bait I could gather was a couple of baby carp. They sliced up into about 6 good chunks of bait. I didn't get any bites on them. Fortunately I was able to capture a handful of adult shad. Whithin 10 minutes of changing bait from carp to shad I caught the first cat of the season a nice healthy 10lbs according to my scale. I also caught a nice wiper of about 7lbs, which was my biggest wiper to date. We have had pleasant weather here all week, and I suspect thigs should really be cooking this weekend.
Anyone else having any luck?
anyone have any success stories to tell about switching from the wierd store bought baits to fresh cut bait , and live baits?
the season is underway now after a long winter, lets hear about your fishing trips, even the unsuccessful ones. Those are the ones we sometimes learn the most from.
good luck to all
I hope you catch your biggest cat ever this year
