RCBS 270 gr.
« on: February 14, 2004, 05:25:38 PM »
Has anyone tried the RCBS270 gr.mold for the 45 Colt SAA. The website has it looking like a SWC, but the description just says FN. Is there much difference, besides weight, between this bullet and the RCBS 255 gr swc?

at least in my two molds The only differnce other then weight is the driving bands on the 275 are more kieth like.  There both excellent bullets and the only difference in which one i use in which gun is which of the two shoots better out of that specific gun.

The 270 saa will weigh about 280 to 295 depending on your alloy. Other than that it shoots well even at long range, which if you reread Sixguns is the true measure of a sixgun and bullet.

RCBS 45 270 SAA

The RCBS 45 270 SAA was designed by David Scoville to be a modified Keith bullet with longer bearing surfaces for use in shallow groove Colt SAA revolvers. When cast from WW +1.5% Sn, they weigh 282 grains. This bullet has proved to give exceptional accuracy in all brands of 45 Colt revolvers. I shot this bullet over 20/H4227 for 1,000 fps + velocity out of several revolvers. For my money this is the best all around bullet there is for the 45 Colt round.

After casting about 100 bullets from the mold, and  running them through the lubrisizer,  I weighed them they all weighed in the 270-273 gr. range. My alloy was mostly a lead and babbitt mixture that cast well and was mighty hard. I'm trying different loads now ane maybe will actually get a chance to shoot some of them soon. If I like this bullet, I'm going to sell my Lyman 452490 and handles.
