How does a thumbhole stock effect cocking and uncocking an Encore? I have been looking at Boyd's site and it looks like it might make it a little more difficult.

Flyrod444 : Just one thing on the thumb-hole stocks. Try one out first. I purchased one in wood and a Bell & Carlson thumb hole stock. Only to find out that because of big hands - either stock fit. As far as cocking and un-cocking the Encore - I would see no problem at all. Your thumb lays at the right position for that.

I thought about a thumb hole stock at one time but decided against it. You would have to remove your thumb from the hole every time you needed to cock the gun. Plus, the way I look at it the standard style Encore stock is a thumbhole stock with the top part of the thumb hole removed anyway.

I have two for contenders. I wondered about that also before I bought the first one. Not a problem for me. Liked it well enough to buy the second. KN

I have considered the Thumbhole too. I looked at the Thumbhole stock and compared it to the standard composite. The basic idea of the thumbhole is to provide a pistol type grip. The standard stock provides the same position, unless you modify the thumbhole.

I fired a thumbhole several times and to me, it didn't do anything shooting wise that I didn't already have.

It looks cool though. Take 3 asprin, go lay down and the urge may pass.

I still want a fancy wood stock and the above did not work for me.

Thanks, I didn't really see any advantage over the original design either except for looks. I will stay with the factory style if I ever purchase a laminated stock.
