« on: May 10, 2004, 07:37:38 AM »
Well since I got my new encore ordered...and eyeballing some extra barrels, I will be looking for a nice breakdown hard case to carry some of my goddies in. Looking for something that will hold the frame and maybe 2 or 3 barrels. Any of you have any good'ns to recommend?? Thanks for the help. This stuff is ADDICTING!!!!!!!

Great idea!  There must be something like that out there somewhere.  I imagine it would weigh a little fully loaded up, but sounds like a good idea.

Mine is for pistol barrels, but a bigger one would work for carbines.  I took two plastic arrow cases and cut some dense foam to fit in them, a thin piece in the bottom, thick on top of that and a thin piece in the lid.  I then arranged the barrels and frame and cut holes in the thick piece to the shape of each piece.  Each case holds 3 barrels with scopes up to 14" long and one frame, totally protected from damage.

I recommend a full-size rifle case so you don't have to fool around assembling and disassembling your gun every time you put it in the case and take it back out. This can get to be a real hassle, especially since the Encore is not a true take-down gun. It requires a screwdriver, and some fooling around with screws and a hinge pin, all of which are prone to being dropped and lost.

You are right Quester, but it also depends how you store your frame and barrels and if you are only taking one barrel to the range.  I store my Contender pistol frames without barrels so that I can wipe the barrels down when I bring them home.  This means that I either put the first barrel on it at home and take it back off at home or do it at the range.  I have done it both ways and it is about as broad as it is long.

My Encore rifle setup only consists of 2 barrels, a 25-06 and a 209x50.  I usually only take one of those barrels to the range at a time.  In that case it is much easier not to have to put the thing together and take it back apart at the range.

You just need to determine you usage and decide what is best and even then you will do it both ways.  I always used to take them down 10 years ago.  Then I went through a period where I always left home and came back home with one barrel on the frame.  Now I am back to taking them down.

The best solution, one barrel and one frame!!!!  Nope, it will never happen in this household, and for all of us T/C lovers everywhere, do not let it happen in you household either!!!!

I have one made by Gun Guard. Outside dimensions are 37 3/4"x 11 1/4". It is just big enough to hold a frame with rifle buttstock and 2 barrels with scopes. Sean

I bought a inexpensive (under $20) large plastic tool box with an upper tray in it. It is an easy way to load up a frame and up to 3-4 barrels along with all the small tools and stuff you need.  Just line it with some layers of foam and you are ready to go.

I bought a couple of break down shotgun cases at Cabellas. They were alluminum "Plano" brand cases. Very nice, 37"x13" if I remember right.  KN
