Misdemeanor stupidity at the Gun Show today....
« on: February 15, 2003, 06:42:54 PM »
I've been going to gun shows about as long as I can remember and it finally happened. Some yahoo brought a loaded gun into the show and as he was clearing it with the show official at the front door it discharged. This really got the crowds attention. Thank God no one was injured. This act of brilliance got him a charge of reckless endangerment with a firearm.

It clearly states every where you look that guns must be empty, you are not to have any live ammo with your guns. Magazines are even prohibited to be loaded which brings us to contestant #2.

Another "Einstein" cleared his gun at the door checkpoint with the show officials, made his way to the bathroom then proceeded to load a magazine and charge his weapon before returning it to a hip holster. Fortunately someone witnessed this and notified a show official.  The local police officer also placed this subject under arrest, who proceeded to make a scene, saying that he couldn't be arrested since he had a valid CCW permit.  Oh, the exciting times that we live in.

Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time....ES

There are some individuals that have firearms that really should not have them. The first individual in your post is one. The second individual apparently may have a problem obeying rules. Glad no one was injured with the discharge.

Think nothing of it. I had a guy come into my friends gunshop this past Saturday and tried to sell me a TC Contender 14" 44 mag. The price was right--$200--but he didn't want me to transfer it thru PICS! He said it wasn't in his name so it wouldn't matter-he didn't remember where he got it-no one would know we made the trade... ATF set-up or what! You guys be carefull cuz they're trying everyway they can to make us criminals!!! I really think this type of entrapment should be against the law!

Give 'em some benefit of the doubt...it might not have been the Feds; it might have been local or state fuzz, or even (wow!) a local punk who stole the weapon. You shoulda jingled the copshop, if only to find out.

Frog, that's the same show that will be in the Knoxville area next week end. I haven't heard or seen anything at K-town showw but I'm not surprised at what Bubba did. It was jast a matter of time. It only takes one dipstick to make them us all look bad. We will have 2 gunshows in the next 2 week ends and it will be interesting to see if any new regulations will be pushed because of this. I will be at both and will post if anything new shows up.

The problem with the second individual is that he doesn't understand the meaning for having the CCW permit...instead he treats it like some "status" symbol or badge to brag about........a true walkin' talkin' rectum.

Yeah, maybe it's not the Feds, but the locals are just as bad. I rank the Staties and the others right there together. I think this smell like a bad A$$ dude that got into trouble and to cop a plea he's working, maybe even with a wire. It's not the 1st time he's been in the shop. He always has a story, and it's never been the same. He just showed up one day out of the blue about 1 yr ago. He talks of a big gun collection and his shooting prowess--but he can't name any 'relatively local' gunshops where he bought them, or where he shoots. He won't even say where he's from. He's a planted RAT and he's gonna try and get a pinch. We have one of the local 'friends of the FOP' looking into it for us. EVERYONE, be carefull, legal, and protect your rights!

That's what I mean...jingle the fuzz whenever he tries anything...it protects you and maybe catches a bad guy. Probably gets him outta your hair, anyway, since they'll stop sending him in, he's too easily "made".
If you opt for the "pretend you don't know he's no good" routine, you've gotta inform everybody who might have any contact with him, including your customers.

It would be smart to get a photo of a guys like that and send to other dealers. Local LE would be interest also and if he is a snitch having his picture out there would stop him in his tracks.

I would have to class that as felony stupidity.  Loaded guns at gun shows is a hot topic with me.  My son was shot at a gun show a couple of years ago.  It two acts of stupidity for it to happen.  One guy brought a loaded Walther PP into the gun show apparently without checking it at the front door.  He gave it to a second guy to look at.  He took the magazine out but left one in the chamber.  It was the second guy who shot my son.  Fortunately he was considerate enough to put his hand between the gun and my son.  The bullet fragmented in his hand and the fragments hit my son in the back and side.  Only one fragment penetrated.  They removed it at the emergency room and sent my son home.  The hard part was telling his mother when we got home.  Believe me, mothers see no humor at all in ther sons getting shot even if they are in their twenties.

i am with detroit charlie 1000% on this one.   instead of trying to be joe slick,  call the local law enforcement agency.   trying to forward pictures to other owners to show up what might be the man making sure everyone is playing by the rules ( more likely some scumbag doing something shifty ) doesnt sound reasonable to me.   at any rate,  it surely should be checked out by the proper authorities.    and if it is the man,  surely i would want them to know that if something fishy were going on in my shop that i thought warrented them checking into,  that i would call in a heartbeat.   it is good to look out for your own best interest,  but dont get caught up in the wrong mindset.   for the most part, law-dogs are trying to do their best.   we should all do our part to assist them if we can.

Don't buck the man for trying to check on local gun shops. They have to do it, and it keeps more of them legit. Good eye on seeing this scumbag, but stick to the rules and you won't have a problem with these guys.

I know the argument that I may get "they should be worried more about the streets than a law abiding shop owner" but come on... They need to check that everyone is doing right. Way to keep an eye out and way to stay legal. You are helping us keep our rights by doing so.
