Is it true that Ziess is a mechanically superior scope?
I have been told that european scopes in general are mechanically superior to American Scopes.
Americans use a spring system of adjustment and their German counterparts are using full mechanical adjustments?
Burris uses two springs plus you can get posi lock to hold your zero.
Nikon uses one spring.
Leupold uses one spring.
What about the Bushnell Elite 4200?
What about the new Nikon Gold?
Does the new VX III line also use only one spring?
Swarovski uses a patented four coil spring system instead of leaf springs.
Anyone know about the construction of these scopes?

It  probably has more precise W/E adjustments like most Euro scopes and top end American/Japanese scopes.

I have been told that european scopes in general are mechanically superior to American Scopes.

Maybe/Maybe not depends on the model and price range

Not true Leupold and Swarovski 1" tubes both use leaf springs

Burris uses two springs plus you can get posi lock to hold your zero.

Thats part of their ad so not sure it is real accurate, if it is so accurate why do they need posilock

Nikon uses one spring.

They probably use 2 leaf springs

Leupold uses one spring.

Not sure about that probably uses 2 leaf springs

Only on their PH series scopes
. For that matter Millett Gold Series scopes have coil springs also

Like I said above pretty much all 1" scopes are constructed the same with exception of Millett scopes with their coil springs.  Where European scopes excel is in light gathering, resolution, ergonomics  in most cases they have superior optical glass and a scope design that maximizes light transmission. These are important factors but there are other important factors in my opinion. Light Weight, correct mounting tube length, good eye relief  are very important.  IF  European scopes  were built that much better they would never fail on a heavy recoiling rifle. Most scopes either Euro or American or Japanese don't last long on heavy recoiling guns. Some say that Leupold takes Recoil better then any other make . If I had to pick a perfect 1" scope it would be the Swarovski 3-10x42 for all around lightweight, great glass and reliability. For a 30mm tube Zeiss VM or a Nikon Gold. Just my .02 cents worth

The only thing I would like to add is that the Burris Posi-Lock in my opinion is just a joke!  Although I own Burris scopes, none of them have posi-lock, and I will never own one that has it.

Zachary is the resolution in the ziess conquest better than the bushnell elite 4200 and are they just as bright in your opinion?
Mechanically which do you feel is superior?

I am thinking of purchasing the either the ziess 4.5 - 14 X 44
Or the Elite 4200 4 - 16 X 40

Is the Burris 4 -16 X 44 Just as bright and also delivering the same resolution?

I own both Zeiss and Elite 4200s, and I really can't tell you the difference between the two because they are both so great.

Mechanically, both are also top notch, although I have much more experience with the Elite 4200 and thus trust it more.

Also, the Elite has rainguard, which I really like.

The only drawbacks to the Elites are that they have shorter eye relief, and they are generally longer and heavier than comparable models.

As for the Burris, the Conquest and the Elite is just a much better scope in my experience (and I own all three.)
